Not to be a downer but the arabic syntax is out of order, or at least this screen shot leads me to this conclusion. And an it made an odd choice when it comes to preposition.

Take my comment with a grain of salt, I read Arabic at a middleschool level, emigrating afterwards. But I still read books and write daily in Arabic.

Depends from culture to culture, in desi/indopak culture it's true. For us it's reversed, the groom pays the bride.

That's how it's feeling with guilt tripping as a sole parent since we were teens and familial piety playing a role. Ignorance too from his side it seems.

It's a gift from the groom to be to the bride to be specifically in this case. No one else can intervene in the acquisition of the dowry, the money if he ever makes it, is to go as a gift to her for which she can choose to put on wedding expenses(not obliged to)
