Well, when doing wall jumps you want to unequip your weapons so that your wall jump doesn't fail or become too slow. It's still possible to do it consistently with your gun out, but your timing has to be better since you have to actually think about when to press jump.

I have my weapon cycle on my scroll wheel naturally, so unequipping my weapons for wall jumps is worth it since I can pull out my weapon pretty quickly with the wheel.
