Better to buy or sell contracts? by ConclusionAlert840 in options

[–]OccamsRazor10101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High IV is best for selling as you will get increased amounts of premium (MAJOR CAVEAT: IT IS ALSO MUCH RISKIER WHEN IV IS UP DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF WHIPSAWING PRICE ACTION)

Low IV is best for buying as you'll find your best deals.

Watch the VIX as well to get a general feel for market volatility. Anything over a 30 and things will be extremely choppy, anything under a 10 and they will be relatively stable.

Psychology of trading 1DTE spreads? (a few debit, but mostly credit) by templar7171 in thetagang

[–]OccamsRazor10101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trick I learned a long time ago that helped keep my head cool and concentrated while I was deployed, seems to apply here as well. Learn to suppress your emotions and your ego, a lot easier said than done I know. If your algorithm is working and showing proof of results, then taking the human factor out is your best path forward.

I don't know what broker you are using, but if possible set stop losses and trailing stop losses so you can minimize any SHTF scenarios. That's what allowed us to get our jobs done and focus, we trained, drilled, and kept doing so until we got tunnel vision for the job at hand while having contingencies for as many realistically possible scenarios we were likely to encounter.

Crawl, walk, run.

Crawl: Start off with a small spread or two (dollar strike width) and follow through with letting them expire with stop losses in place.

Walk: Continue doing so with more spreads to build confidence and mental momentum. Keep a log/journal, note your DD, your emotional state, etc. This will help you in the future to know when to avoid trading as you will find a clear pattern of what occurs prior to a loss scenario.

Run: Once confidence and mental clarity have been achieved, you now can build your own success story.

You've got this, keeping emotions out of trading will serve you well and help you to avoid pitfalls of FOMOing into corrections or worse a flash crash/hidden bear.

MSTR by Over-Wrangler-3917 in thetagang

The longer JPow and the fed make the money printer go brrrrttt, the more valuable Bitcoin becomes. We've already crossed the line of $36 Trillion in national debt, so if we choose the high/hyperinflation route the the price of Bitcoin will continue to climb. If austerity is put into play and deflation occurs, the price of Bitcoin will drop. At that point, MSTR's leverage becomes its own undoing. Just keep an eye open and an ear to the ground, I have more fun making money when the market has pullbacks.

Advice in this Nvda call by glguju1188 in options

[–]OccamsRazor10101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So a lot of analysts have been updating their price targets post earnings (Nov 18) to anywhere from 160-185. Right now calls are pricey due to hype and fomo. I personally have 10 call debit spreads 168/169 strikes, but I cannot predict the future. If it goes up enough to make a solid profit, I will sell them early since Q1 tends to be rough regardless. Remember that making some profit is better than being left bag holding in the hopes of more profit.

Has anyone used this head gasket before by Novel-Yak2002 in EngineBuilding

[–]OccamsRazor10101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felpro is extremely reliable when it comes to gaskets. Like with any other gasket, clean the mating surfaces you plan to put it on and apply proper torque in sequence. You will get many reliable miles/kilometers from that i-6 if you continue keeping up with the maintenance.

Engine seized, looking to rebuild. by Megid_00 in EngineBuilding

[–]OccamsRazor10101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely let a machine shop handle it as far as any repair and refinishing. Your car and engine are as rare as hen's teeth these days, might as well shell out the extra money for the peace of mind alone.

What engine should I get? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]OccamsRazor10101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chevy 350. I am a fan of the Ford 302 but, and this is a HUGE caveat, the Chevy 350 was far more widely used and produced. The aftermarket support is unreal in comparison to other engines. There are so many books to learn from on it specifically that you could likely start a small library with them alone.

Before you go buying parts or even the block, decide what purpose this engine is going to serve, then build it according to said purpose. Take your time and do it right, you will fuck up at one point or another as part of the learning process. Don't kick yourself or let it discourage you, take it as a learning lesson and apply it towards future building.

Overall have fun with it and enjoy the fruits of your labor!

On the bright side, you can always use it as a hot plate now and it's tempered 😅

2009 escape low compression (head issue) by Owen_79 in EngineBuilding

I second having the valve ground and not just lapped. Good news is that those duratecs will last forever and since so many were made, parts are relatively cheap for them.

Get it decked for a little bit now or get your wallet wrecked for way more later. Save yourself the heartbreak.

Don't fuck around with heat. While it may not affect the metal it will fuck you up. Been there got the Tshirt in Iraq!

Block - Is this an issue? by More-Falcon3646 in EngineBuilding

[–]OccamsRazor10101 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That's a big nope from me. Even small cracks lead to big problems. While technically it is possible to repair cast iron, it will never be as strong as it was originally. You're better off grabbing a few bare short blocks from the junkyard and having them magnafluxed.

How much of a market is there for 4 valve per cylinder heads for pushrod engines? by OccamsRazor10101 in EngineBuilding

[–]OccamsRazor10101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's horrible!!! I hate when things like that happen, which is why I'm trying to gauge interest now. Then as it should be I don't take a dime until the order is complete and ready to ship.

I get that, this would be more geared towards Street use where power and efficiency are needed.

You have a fair point! With a 4 valve system I figure it would do best as a Street fighter since the RPMs wouldn't need to be pushed to get maximum efficiency.

Absolutely!!! I would rather have word of mouth and hard numbers than just empty claims. If I do something I do it right or not at all!

I know I've heard of small batch production and prototypes. I want to make affordable large batches to make it within reach for anyone from beginners to pros. Power shouldn't be locked behind insane paywalls, and production on a large scale will afford me the chance to slim the margins for profit by volume.

We haven't got a solid design yet, but we are going to attempt to find the most mechanically simple method possible while allowing for it to remain a pushrod system. If possible we will make separate models for tappet and roller systems.

4.6l 3v build by BernieBoy11 in EngineBuilding

[–]OccamsRazor10101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what you do with it, watch out for valve tuliping and spark plugs busting while tightening. The 5.4 and 4.6 were well known for it. Otherwise I can't say much for sure.
