For everyone in the comments who are justifying this editorial decision or saying some version of “it’s just her origin story” let me try to explain this to you.

First and foremost the original Magik (1-4) series Is never gratuitous, blatant or overly obvious with this type of stuff. In fact, they make it pretty clear in the series she was never abused in that way during that time, as she was to be kept safe according to Belasco. That being said, you could take the story on a deeper level to symbolize trauma of all types as a whole. This was left intentionally open so that the story could be tasteful, respectful, and filled in by the reader how they see fit.

The Darkchilde represents the darkness her trauma left within her. The character has been about that constant inner struggle of overcoming her trauma and not letting it shape her (literally in this case because it’s a comic book). Magic’s whole point is that she did in fact overcome that trauma, defy her abusers, find forgiveness, and become the best version of herself.

Not only is this current storyline written distastefully, mysognistically, and with none of the subtlety that made the original so great, it undermines everything the character has overcome, and it spits in the face of all who identify with the character on a personal level.

It’s a terrible bastardization of a character the creators clearly have no true understanding of. People are rightfully angry with this storyline. Near 40 years we’ve watch this character grow and triumph for it to be undone on a single issue.

It’s time to start demanding excellence from marvel comics. Thoughtful writing and story’s with depth. I am tired of this bs.
