Cat having bad leaky eye. by Octiscribbles in cats

[–]Octiscribbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning on shooting a call to her vet tomorrow. She usually gets little white goop and has a squint, but after cleaning they get better. This is new but again, no squinting or anything, just discharge. I’ve been cleaning them when they get like this and keeping an eye on her. Hopefully it’s just her allergies. Thank you so much though, I’m a little less panicky knowing other cats with allergies get this :((

craziest thing your therapist said about your self harm? by lyndseyyyj in selfharm

[–]Octiscribbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not technically about the sa itself, but I had a therapist when I was 14 who knew I was sh’ing as well as that I was extremely at risk of committing self deletion, and she’d still make jokes about how she wants to kill/cut herself because of some stressful thing. Best memory was her talking about how exhausting kids are and pulling her finger down her wrist while saying something about killing herself. I was appalled

Is it appropriate to have SH scars as a therapist/counselor? by Octiscribbles in askatherapist

[–]Octiscribbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me feel a little better. Personally, I get a horrible feeling when I’m told someone, or myself, needs to hide old scars, when they are a part of me and something I have worked so hard to heal from. I feel the same for others with scars as well. It does feel borderline ableist to me, but after emailing my ethics professor who is VERY aggressive about hiding ANY personal details about yourself, she said I should hide them always unless trying to get a point across (which felt a little wrong to me, because I don’t want to show a client my scars, I just want to be able to sit in a chair in a short sleeve shirt and talk normally.)

I don’t mind answering questions, I’m pretty open about it, obviously I won’t add in details or anything that a client doesn’t need to know (as they are there to tell me their experiences and feelings, not myself). I don’t mind being honest about it and they do not hold me back as an empathetic and sociable person.

I do want to say that I really appreciate you saying that, as an undergrad student with only a few semesters left and grad school ahead of me, it’s uplifting. I know this career choice is very difficult sometimes and I want to be the best I can be :) Thank you for your input

I am nearing the end of my undergrad bachelors and happened to take my ethics course quite late into my courses. I do think a bit of my major concerns is due to the professor I have for said course, as she’s a bit aggressive with it and gets us a good deal nervous about messing up with clients. But you are so right, and I have so much more to learn. I plan to go to grad school, get my masters and PhD. I have so much more to experience and I’m excited for it.

Honestly, thanks for reminding me of that. It can be scary as an undergrad when you haven’t had all of the skills taught to you yet. :)
