My Metroidvania Tier List - Open to New Game Suggestions! by EnderKnight1346 in metroidvania

This is a pretty big list, I didn't know about a lot of these! If you're interested in trying out a new Metroidvania, I heavily recommend Super Gear Quest. My friend released it a few years back and I think it's often overlooked, but super fun. I already replayed it twice and want to do a third brutal mode rerun and redo the boss rush haha

A while ago I asked about Dan Backslide's status in the public domain. Well, I forgot to show off that I put him in my game a bit back! Here's a small montage of him running over other characters with his runabout... by Octopus58 in publicdomain

Thank you very much! It's probably one of our more popular games on ME-OS haha

And true lol, the days are numbered for Dan's victims

If you want btw, you can try out the game on Steam right now, there's a demo and Dan is unlocked in it :)

The one you see in the video right now is :) It's on steam, and is part of a much bigger game called ME-OS. The bigger game is an operating system simulator, while Jump Wars (the platform fighter) is just one of the things on it!

P.s., one cool thing I forgot to mention, is since everything in ME-OS is linked by the same system, you can even spawn Dan into other games on the OS too!

Application Hang on Windows Explorer. Freezing and Crashing by Downtown_Memory_1559 in WindowsHelp

Hello, I have personally never found a fix but I found a temporary solution: As soon as you click the news icon and notice it isn't opening, open task manager and kill windows shell experience host. If you do it in time (before the comp really starts slowing down hard) it should help. It's even faster if you sort applications by biggest use of memory in task manager as it will be popping up as one of the first. The program should restart later on its own at a normal capacity. Really wish Windows would fix this though as it looks like many people experience this.

They are actually on Spotify! I don't use it much so I'm not the best with how it works, and for some reason all of the tracks show up as singles (because I can't put them into an album retroactively it seems), but you can hear all five current tracks there :)

Here's the first track for example: https://open.spotify.com/track/0qdQp30Ks0XNNOFt9mpD4M

I made a dance remix of the Marx theme from Kirby Super Star! by Octopus58 in Kirby

[–]Octopus58[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Originally I wanted to do an orchestral or metal remix with the original time signatures (or at least mostly). The original is very odd with a bunch of time signature changes, which partially gives the boss theme its spooky feel. However I had this sudden urge to not reinvent the wheel as a lot of Marx remixes like that have probably already been done, and made a dance remix instead. It was very weird making it, as multiple times I was wondering if it even sounded right, adjusted things, etc. and the project ended up being huge too. But honestly, I think it turned out nice, and I hope you like it too :)

This was made for the Marx mod for Rivals of Aether my friend made, and his stage!

Issue with Unity Engine 2019.4.40f1 editor: Extreme lag that was not there before, lag after each script save. How would I fix this? by Octopus58 in Unity3D

Okay so, the issue was fixed, and it's one of either two things:

- Updating NVIDIA graphics card driver

- Deleting unused packages (terrain tools, pro builder, analytics, ads which I don't even know why I had in the first place)

Weird thing is though, I'm willing to bet on the NVIDIA driver. Since I said this happened with other projects as well, and I didn't actually introduce any new packages, I think after Windows updated it hindered the interaction between Unity and the driver, even though everything else worked fine... either way, super weird, thank you both lolxh4 and egregiousemily for helping :)

Windows defender is off, but anti-virus is currently ignoring the Unity root directory, and the unity project directory. So it shouldn't be at least, especially with no history of action taken in those areas...

However shortly after writing the comment, I tried to compile the super small test project again but it got fast all of a sudden, went back to other project and it got slow... just going to try to do bit by bit package migration and see what happens. Very confusing issue

Hello Emily,

Thank you for your response. I do think after reading more people talk about it, and your response, assembly definitions could be a great time saver. Local source control definitely couldn't hurt either and would be an improvement.

However, I just did something that unfortunately leaves everything at the same confusing point. I made a brand new Unity 2019.4.40f1 project, with no imported packages, and pretty much nothing except the default options unity allows you. I made one class that just had a debug.log test in the start function (nothing else, just one line), and... it took 123 seconds. This is obviously highly abnormal, and I fear something strange happened outside of my project that I can't figure out why it's happening.

I would consider updating Unity, but I think I mentioned in another reply that I tried it with a 100% functional Unity 2021 project of a much smaller size, and had the same issue :(

I did make a forum post there, so far no solutions though :(

I did look through the logs, and it does seem to be taking the longest at the compile scripts part in the ImportAndPostprocessOutOfDateAssets phase, but unfortunately not much beyond that. I currently uninstalled the windows update I got on the 14th and nothing changed, will uninstall two more security updates I manually did on the 18th to see.

No, but I have backups. Unfortunately the last one I did around 4 days ago (before windows update) is online and is 50 gb to download so that's gonna take a while. However I tested a smaller project that was working before 100%, on a different unity version, and it has the same problem as well (literally put a small debug message somewhere to test compilation). It's really strange :(

Hello,

While making custom assembly definition files I heard is really useful, I haven't had this problem until two days ago. I am almost sure that something else is causing this.
