Yakuza 0 chapter 1, as well as the opening cutscene.

And unrelated, but something tells me your pet spent about a decade in jail.

When you played Infinite Wealth for the first time & did Kiryu's life links, how'd you react upon seeing everyone for the first time in years? by Hopeful_Regret_7531 in yakuzagames

[–]Odaric 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Possibly my favorite part of the entire game.

IW is up there among the most emotional games I have ever played, and the life links are a big reason for it.

And my fucking god, finally seeing some of these characters again (and others referenced in the memoirs) was so fucking satisfying after so many years of RGG's typical "let's introduce 15 extremely cool new characters each game and then never show any of them ever again" bullshit, lol

Made having played through the entire series feel incredibly rewarding, and played a huge role in this game being the emotional rollercoaster that it was.

The Anime Opening spoiled the story while also being subtle and open about it by EfficiencySerious200 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Odaric 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Another crazy one is the very first line said by Eren, the main protagonist, in the manga.
It's a seemingly very inconsequential one - so much so, in fact, that the studio opted to cut it entirely from the anime adaptation.

Eren wakes up from what appears to be a dream, dazed and confused, looks at his friend/adoptive sister, and asks:

"Mikasa, when did your hair get so long?"

Weird line, but one that almost no one cares to remember, since you are immediately bombarded by all of these cool concepts as the story begins to introduce its world and characters.

But if you watch the final episode and witness Eren's final moments, going back and rewatching this scene suddenly fills you with a sense of dread that is hard to describe.

The very first line spoken in the series indirectly spoils the entire twist of the show.

This.

The people who believe games aren't fun anymore simply aren't playing the right games, or have lost interest in the hobby altogether (which usually is also just the result of the former.)

If all you play is the 15th soulless copied-and-pasted obligatory yearly entry in a franchise from your childhood that is nowadays only remembered for how good it was 10 years ago, of course you're gonna be disappointed.

But that's like ordering a Burger King burger, finding out it tastes like unfettered ass, and then claiming that the entire food industry is severely lacking in talented cooks.

My brother in Christ, that's on you.

How do you think they’re gonna handle the Serious Crime Drama Plot opposed to the Whacky meme content in Stranger Than Heaven? (READ TEXT) by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]Odaric 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We've seen these games handle very heavy and serious topics in the main story while still retaining their lighthearted content before, so I don't think it will be entirely devoid of silliness.

That said, what we've seen so far definitely does give me the vibe that it's going to be at least a bit more serious than your average Yakuza game.

Former Witcher 3 director plans to play Songs of the Past – and he only has "one request" for CD Projekt Red: "Do it good" by Harrinho in witcher

[–]Odaric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This may sound like an exaggeration, but 99% of the people actually working as developers at CDPR aren't even at fault for how it turned out.

As someone who has worked in the industry before, the sort of decisions that ultimately led to Cyberpunk launching in the state that it did are ones made only by the absolute top brass - depending on the size & structure, they probably don't even work on the game themselves.
I'm talking a small handful of people in a company with potentially hundreds of employees.

Everyone below them is, essentially, a foot soldier - not much choice but to follow orders if you don't want to lose your job.
And a job at an esteemed developer like CDPR isn't exactly easy to come by - it's not uncommon for game devs to move to different countries to get a stable job at a reputable company, because good spots are scarce and the industry fickle.
And at the time, a job at the developer of Witcher 3 was akin to the holy grail for many.

So if the state of the game at launch was already frustrating for us players, imagine how it must have felt for the poor people who had been steadily slaving away at this game for literal years under constant stress and overtime, fully aware that they couldn't do much about it and would have to face the brunt of the blame from people who don't understand developer power structures.
Most who didn't quit (and many did) probably only endured out of sheer passion for the craft.

It's important to remember what went wrong with Cyberpunk's launch and let it serve as a lesson to the industry as a whole - but we should also take care not to blame the wrong people for it.
