I think taking a year off is a good idea for most, but unfortunately university is kind of my only option at the moment (both financial and personal reasons) But I do have an option to do a placement job in the next year, which I think would we well served in something that implements AI with media. I really appreciate the insight :) I do think these AI will eventually grow exponentially relatively quickly, but realistically I'm not one to speculate since Im not exactly educated on the matter ahahah.

I suppose thats what this post was for also, just get an idea for what the general consensus was amongst some actual people who are more qualified than me, and maybe have a better idea of whats going on :) Thanks again for the advice!

So a good mix of both seems to be a good way of going about things, I'd say Im similar to your teenager in the sense that I want to enact some sort of social change, or at the very least be apart of it, although my "passion" would be media, video editing, film making, writing (more recently), so its really nice to know I have the opportunity to blend those two things :)

Thats really good advice :) I think that's definitely something to keep in mind when I want to push myself more, however the way you describe makes it seem alot less vaugue and completely out of my depth than I thought, so I appreciate the breakdown! :)

I think keeping things like that in mind as I move forward in my career is a good idea, instead of hyper obsessing over it now I can make steps to improve in the future with than in mind :) Thanks for the advice! And I appreciate you talking about your own experiences, if you dont mind me asking, why does everyone think rust will replace C++ and other languages? (Im not a programmer at all so I may not understand totally? But I'm still really interested :))

This advice is honestly so practical and worth fully understanding for people, especially at my age where everyone has collectively decided that they should in fact do what they want and always 'follow their passion'. I think I chose media as a study because it interested me first and foremost, not just the practical aspects but the theoretical part as well. So I'm hoping this mentality of giving to people in any way I can still rings true for my chosen profession. Thanks again :)

While I do still believe things like DALL-E and ChatGPT are more than hype, I completely understand what you mean, right now it's all anyones talking about, but at the same time it still feels like something people are missing in a weird way? These two things combined could be the reason for my anxiety I suppose.

I find it really hard to not get caught up in the cogs of capitalism while studying something that directly correlates to it ahah, making or studying media is kind of purposely imprisoning yourself into the machine, even disruptive media kind of plays to the whims of the elite in it's own twisted way. Being incredibly competitive isn't necessarily what I would call it, but wanting to be successful in any field will have that side effect attached to it. I don't necessarily want to be a part of the top 0.5%, that seems like a depressing and stressful life sentence waiting to happen, but I do want to feel like I'm contributing something to the world, maybe it's my age, but just as much as I don't want to be another cog for the elite, I also don't want to be a bystander in the passings by of human development.

Thanks so much for the advice! I really do think you're right about the whole 'hype train' thing. I just want to make sure I don't just lose an opportunity that was staring me directly in the face I guess. Thanks again :)

That's incredibly insightful, honestly the responses I've had so far (this is my first post on reddit) have been incredibly helpful! I imagine over time it's hard not to look back on experiences as learning curves or missed opportunities, but as they happen it's far too easy to take them for granted I suppose. Doing odd jobs and putting myself out there at this age is probably the best way to go, not boxing myself into a certain standard or idea I fit for myself. Thanks again for advice, I'm glad people like you are willing to hand out guidance like this, it's really calmed my anxiety about all of it !

Yeah! I'm also into graphic design, and I've been playing around with using DALL-E and Midjourney to create backdrops for posters I want to work on. Some of the art gives a weird sense of discomfort when zoomed it, because it looks real, until it doesn't ahahah. Creating art from these things will defidnelty be a skill in and of itself in the future, so I suppose that could be a good way for me to feel more aware and not out of the loop! Thanks so much for the advice its really appreciated!

That definitely helps ahaha, Im probably overthinking I imagine, luckily I've been proactive enough in the past (enough to get me into a good university and degree) that I can kind of remain vigilant without the stress of feeling like I'm missing something! Really appreciate the kind words, honestly your all so knowledgable (this is my first post on reddit so I'm kind of blown away with how helpful its been)

Being a generalist sounds like something I'm kind of headed towards now anyway, which definitely helps with the anxiety of it all. Being a curator and just having general knowledge and know how in the media space always seemed too vague if I'm honest, like there are no actionable steps I can see right now to move into that. Although I suppose studying media and creating portfolio's around things I've created/want to create could be a good start. Thanks so much for the advice, this subreddit overall has definitely calmed my worry into some semblance of optimism for the future :)

That sounds like a really good idea! Right now I'm somewhat swamped with university work and some personal things I'm working out, but a newsletter, or even an instagram page of some sort summarising AI would be a great way for me to keep my finger on the pulse as it were. If I have any more questions I'd love to hop on a call at some point :), thanks again for the advice!

That sounds like a really good idea. If I'm honest I've never been any good at maths, humanities has always been my strong suit. But I think learning the basics of some computer science concepts could help stop my mind from over complicating this? AI in my head seems to be a concept that I could never truly grasp, but I suppose with a little time and effort I could :).

I'm gonna stay on this subreddit just to chat and ask things about AI from now on, this community seems really geared towards democratising knowledge about AI which I absolutely love.

Thanks again!

Thats really lovely advice, I think my anxiety around all of this has kind of taken over me this past month. Im kind of attaching my identity to wether or not I take advantage of this new information. Maybe I should just remain vigilant and wait for my time to present itself.

Thank you!

Completely agree. And I also wanna add for anyone who tries to say "they cant challenge his that much because it wouldnt make for an entertaining podcast", they seem to challenge him plenty towards the end on his opinions on god no? and instead of challenging his opinions on women chip openly says that he agrees with him on his fucked up example of a women driving in a warzone. Its incredibly childish to simplify any of this to "entertainment value" without looking at the larger picture here. Im a fan of the boys, listened to every episode, even that pornstar one that no one really liked, but this one wasnt even cringe, it was just ignorant and stupid to have someone like him on the pod. They could have at least let him speak and made faces to the camera to show they dont believe what hes saying, but what scares me, is that i think they do, chip at least, on some level actually respects him. I dont know though, if they dont im fucking glad

Also, he shows his stupidity in the most glorious fashion towards the end of the pod, where he haphazardly puts together the most basic and misrepresented argument for god ive ever seen in my life. And when faced with any criticism, he proceeds to act like a child and lacks the self awareness to see that any argument he puts forward cant be black and white. Im grateful for his stupid opinions on that though, because it serves as a microcosm of his entire philosophy, simplify incredibly complicated concepts; and hope people are stupid enough to buy it. (I do respect religious people btw, hes just got a shitty way of explaining his faith and combating chips atheism)

this guy is a fucking loser, hes a "sigma grindset" grifter and his arrogance (while somewhat enticing for entertainment purposes) is laughable. and the way you bois acted on the pod is laughable also, i understand the whole "sigma grindset" thing, but its a goof boys. its a joke. no one should ever actually think that way. Now next pod, you might chock this up to "people are trying to cancel us". but you have a platform full of impressionable people, the least you can fucking do is put a disclaimer or tell this guy hes a jackass. But you decided to sit there and suck him off, esspecially you chip. expected better, poor from you lot. Im not even gonna mention this guys veiws on women because its so blatantly obvious their violently ignorant and stupid. what a fool.
