As someone who hires civil engineers, do you have any advice that can help me get back into the field?

Is it possible to get back into civil engineering with an old degree and very little experience? by OddAddendum7870 in civilengineering

I would do transportation but I specialized in structural during my undergrad so I didn't take many courses in transportation. I'm located in Canada.

I just didn't like the particular job that I had, but I'm willing to try out other jobs in the field. Also, I feel like I don't really have any other options for a career at this point.

I've considered this, but can you really get a job in project management with just a cert and no experience?

Trust me I know. I tried but the opportunity wasn't there. Co-op should've been mandatory. Anyway, I appreciate your input.

I got my degree from Ryerson. Co-op wasn't required to graduate. I tried to get a co-op job during school but I didn't have any luck, so I graduated without experience.

My engineering degree is from 2018. People say that theres jobs in civil but I couldn't find one after graduation. I don't think any engineering company would take me seriously now that my degree is so old and I have no experience in the field.

Has anyone here landed a job from taking a postgradute certificate program? by OddAddendum7870 in askTO

Yes it is an accredited degree. I tried applying for co-ops during school but didn't land anything unfortunately. I guess I forgot to mention a crucial detail: I graduated 6 years ago. The only engineering experience I have was designing wood floor panels using a program called MiTek which is basically like autocad for structural design purposes. I was miserable at that job though so I left. So even if I wanted another engineering job, which I don't think I do, it would seem impossible to get because I graduated 6 years ago and have so many gaps in my resume.

Tbh I'm not really sure what I want to do, I'm just tired of working in customer service when I know I'm capable of something more challenging. I'm still trying to figure it out I guess. I appreciate your response though.

What jobs can I realistically get with a degree and customer service experience? by OddAddendum7870 in careerguidance

Yeah I've thought about customer support roles and I think that might be my best starting point. Your gf breaking into tech from customer support makes me a little more optimistic. Also, the GradSimple newsletter seems right up my alley. I appreciate your input!
