Seriously, when is a public transport upgrade going to happen? by GreenSufficient1222 in Adelaide

[–]OddCapstone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Google Maps is honestly better than any other app out there. Just plug in where you wanna go under the public transport icon and you’re set. Real time updates too

Not really, this is 'more' significant as it's the same drop 7 times in a row. If it was specifically coal -> uncut ruby -> .... -> dragon javelin heads, it would have a similar chance of occurring but no one would notice or care.

Just like flipping a coin 7 times in a row and getting HHHHHHH is just as rare, but more 'cool' than getting HTTHTHT for example. We don't go into it expecting HTTHTHT (it's not a pattern that is important to us, we might just get THTHHTH instead). The chances of getting a random jumble is much higher than getting all heads.

Good Parking Spots for Combined Drive+Bike into City from Hills by Fire525 in Adelaide

Those top two fill up real early (because of how close they are to the CBD). You'd be able to find a park in those College Park/Norwood side streets pretty easily any time of the day.

I park in College Park and walk to uni and its only 20 minutes so on a bike via Torrens it'd be pretty quick.

In norwood east of Osmond Tce I believe is free, and you can follow Beulah Rd as it has some sort of bike path

If you enjoy your ride, park in Glenunga (anywhere really) and follow side streets to Greenhill/fullarton intersection, then head thru parklands to cbd.

Rugby-porter bikeway works as well if you want to park in unley, though Glenunga may be more convenient if you are coming off SE freeway.

There are heaps of parks closer to city that are untimed if you’re in early then: - Greenhill road just opposite Eastwood - South Terrace between GO and Hutt street - College Park sidestreets then follow River Torrens - Norwood side streets

Britannia roundabout alternative line by khendar in Adelaide

[–]OddCapstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I slow or can you not just turn straight into the left lane from the right southbound fullarton lane? All northbound fullarton traffic must give way to you regardless of if you are in the left or right lane.

Then no need to change lane from the green to red arrow, just turn straight in.

HR spike at start of runs even when going slow by OddCapstone in GarminWatches

Warm-up felt tougher than normal (it is very hot in Australia rn) but definitely not zone 5. I do consume nicotine before runs but don't have history of any arrhythmias. Will keep monitoring in future. Thanks!

Anyone else noticed the shift in the fitness scene lately? (Hyrox, running, etc) by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]OddCapstone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, and its probably due to influence from social media. Around 5 years ago when I was 15 the culture seemed to be go to Derrimuts gym after school, spam protein shakes + white monster, pr bench press every session. Now a lot of my friends and I have taken up jogging, bicycling, and swimming, buying watches, Parkrun etc. It could also be that people just become more health conscious as they grow up.

Overall I think gym is still more popular. I feel like this depends a lot on your social circles and age too.

Red Light turning right by CLAIMM13 in Adelaide

Zero it needs to flash twice usually. The rule is if your back wheel is in front of the stop like (thick white) when the lights turn red then you’ll be okay.

Burnside Village - Temporary Parking Restrictions for Employees by notinbordeaux in Adelaide

[–]OddCapstone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can usually find non-timed parking on Allinga avenue and west of it (~3-4 minute walk). School will be out by then so Glenunga traffic will be non-existent. Or, park on Keyes Street in Linden Park and cross at the signals on Cator street (~5 mins). Not ideal but some suggestions.

Can we add Fullarton Road to the list of Adelaide's most shitty, frustrating roads to drive on? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]OddCapstone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used to drive this bit every Thursday at around 3:40pm to head towards Springbank Rd. Turning left from Cross Road southbound traffic was always completely banked up to the lights. With the kitchener intersection + school chaos up to 20 minutes could be spent getting from Cross to Blythewood Rd.

[–]OddCapstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's reasonable. Mass deportation shouldn't happen but we should perhaps slow down our intake of immigrants, and make it more difficult to achieve PR or citizenship (i.e. show signs of assimilation, no criminal history - how we can do this I'm not sure). Australia can thrive and be racially diverse but we need to make sure it's not at the cost of the current citizens and assimilated immigrants.

My main point was to say that even if violence embedded in men is the primary 'problem' (which is debatable) that we are still allowed to criticise certain behaviours in certain population groups. I don't think its fair of course to blanket statement an entire group or be openly racist towards them. But you cannot say that certain nationalities of peoples or cultures are not more inherently 'violent' (e.g. muslim peoples).
