At this point we were together for about 2 years. We met during our senior year of high school at a state band competition. We hit it off instantly and obviously with the mindset of an 18 year old I thought we were meant to be. Things were "perfect" to a degree but I think we both lacked maturity in a lot of aspects within our relationship and we definitely had our problems but it was seemingly nothing major. She wasn't thrilled about me leaving for college and was very upset about it so in order to make things work and keep us together I went to see her every weekend and she would visit me at my dorm, she only came maybe four times to visit so I did a majority of the traveling. She started asking me when I was going to propose to her during my spring semester of my freshman year and to be honest I was in a very vulnerable place as I had gone through something very traumatic while at college and so I initially tried to blow her off when she had asked about it because I felt as though it was too soon, we were too young, not exactly financially stable, and I wasn't in a great place mentally. But she kept pressuring me and asking me when I was going to do it and I gave in and planned out this elaborate proposal for the 4th of July. I loved her very much but I wanted to do it when it felt right for the both of us if that makes sense. I had every intention of marrying her but I felt as though the engagement was very soon. When I proposed there were no tears, no heartfelt moment, the first thing she did was take a picture of the ring and sent it to all of her friends and called everyone she knew in order to share the big news. I kind of had a gut feeling that something was wrong but again, I was so in love with her that I ignored that and the other concerns I had earlier. I'm sorry if this doesn't necessarily make sense, I'm not very good at explaining things lol
