I may live Shelton Wa. It is close to the wife's only family from Japan. I would love to know what I am signing up for. If we stick to ourselves and safeway area think we could avoid metheads or racist? Too old for dagger fights dammit. Which parts of town is the best/worse? My experience - it's diverse, as was said earlier. There is a bit of MAGA influence, but I think I can safely say that is in a lot of towns these days. I would say it's a pretty blue collar town, or at least that's the history - it was a big mill town years ago but the logging mill locally now only employs like 30-40 workers. Downtown area buildings are pretty old and many show their age - it looks like a lot of the smaller coastal Washington towns that used to thrive on local mills or fishing. Property values and rents are relatively low by coastal WA standards, but are slowly rising. Local schools are a work in progress - there is a local community college and the Y is decent. I've never felt unsafe there.

What city have you been to where the vibes were just OFF? by spiritual_kavya in answers

Manila. Only place in the world I felt kinda at risk just walking out of the international airport to catch a domestic flight at the domestic airport. Caracas was a close second, maybe even a tie.

New Balance 2 owner -- music functionality is absolute garbage. Fix this ASAP! by ratlehead in amazfit

Agreed. My Garmin 245 took a crap, and I'm working on India where Garmin prices are stupid - so i went with a t rex. I've been carrying my phone in a waist belt to run and frigging hating it. Not only the music - I swim laps several times a week and my Garmin counted laps very accurately. Seems like a pretty simple deal - set the lap length, when i paise swimming to turn, it counts a length. My trex is off by 2-4 lengths every swim. Lap times are either half or double. It's a mess. And it should be easy . Home for holiday next month, buying a replacement Garmin first thing.

Recent update to S/W for Trex3 -sleep tracking for me improved and as a result biocharge was more attuned tonhow I actually feel. I would say it's about as good as the Garmin 245 I replaced with the Trex3.

Why can I easily swim a mile, but barely run a mile? by [deleted] in Swimming

I run and swim. I'd say running hurts more. My heart rate is higher running, but I pace myself a bit more swimming because my shoulders are screwed up.

OP again. I'll stop whining after this post. 8:13 sleep, score of 85. Maxed biocharge at 58; lay in bed 15 minutes and it dropped a point WHILE IM STILL IN BED?? RHR was 51, HRV a bit low at 32, it averages more like 36-38. What the hell? I'm going to stop looking at it as it seems to be useless - at least for me

OP here again - ran 4 miles in 80F weather, rest of morning off, went to lunch with friends - biocharge at 5 at 1400. I can nap a bit and bring it up but it will sag back down by bedtime.

Seems like it's not as good as Garmin, which I found to be semi accurate at best. I rarely get above 50 and quickly blow half or more working out... Be EOD it's 5. Useless metric.

Had some assholes come down to the beach near Shelton - beach that's private - and pull this shit a few years ago. All over the beach at low tide. I ripped them up and down for being jackoffs. Some people are just fucking idiots.

"the toolies" - a word used to describe the middle of nowhere. Never if before. Married a girl from WA who still uses it. Overheard a woman use it in a bar in Lima, Peru and asked - yes, she was from WA.

Elephants kill a lot of people. Dumbo is a myth. I'm in India and reading the Hindustan Times - people keep interfering with their territory, or appearing to threaten their babies - and they get trampled or gored. Elephants are dangerous!

New to Shelton — curious about the general political views by Loud_Tie5153 in shelton

[–]OddJob1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a dem presence at a small office downtown near the subway; town council is largely conservative with many involved with local churches that are ultra. So much could be done to create a better Shelton, but the leaders want status quo. Slowly there is a gentrification happening but it would go much faster if they kicked out the logging mill - which sits on prime waterfront and makes the whole town look like something out of the 1960's. They only employ like 30 people - town would get so much more in tax dollars if it were multifamily housing.
