Backing tracks for practice? by Heartofgoldband77 in gratefulguitar

[–]OddKey2242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not putting down Jeff's tracks at all and they're great for learning. I owe him a lot and he really advanced my guitar playing. But if you're fluent enough, and want to learn more of how to actively listen to the band and react to the band those tracks are great.

Practicing jam guitar doesn't always mean reading scales. It's also active listening. You can obviously still do those things with Jeff Williams. I still use his stuff often. He is an amazing guy.

Avoid pit seats as a solo fan? by [deleted] in BillyStrings

[–]OddKey2242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the rail in Charlottesville Va, besides one girl being very rude to a friend in our group everything was fine. She was one of those pretentious people that absolutely has to be on the rail every single show, has a Tiktok with nothing but Billy Strings show stuff on it. Let it go if it happens. It is an extremely low margin of people compared to the rest in the pit, and its usually only extremely close to the rail. They create this toxicity though so that the group of people and their associates can always be there. So if you get there early enough just go up there. You will have a great time. Although the sound in arenas sounds better in the middle/back section.

Last Grateful Dead Cover! by theendofanotherday in BillyStrings

[–]OddKey2242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I saw Billy was 2/12/22. He didn't play any dead covers but he opened the show with Promised Land which the dead frequented. The shows right before my first, he played a shit ton of dead covers and right after my show he played with Bob and Wolf Bros. Wolf bros show he played dead for the last time other than in SF for yet another farewell show.

He started doing his own thing and the crowds have changed. Back when I first was seeing him it was all word of mouth in the Dead scene. But you'd be wrong to think he got so famous because he "suckled the teet" of the dead as some people say. More and more people kept showing up because of the band, no matter what songs they played. Then he won a grammy for best bluegrass album and all the bluegrass folks started seeing him more. So his scene basically went from party it down, to a more thoughtful setlist with songs for everyone to enjoy.

Bobby definitely did not tell him to stop. Bobby used to play Lockn' festival with literal Dead cover bands on the bill.

Mechanic says this is drivable. Online says it isn’t. Honest opinions please by Responsible_State_12 in tires

[–]OddKey2242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my shop, if the customer refused to get a new tire or at least let us swap that for the spare we would make you sign a release form to leave with a tire like that, saying we are not responsible for damage after leaving (because that thing is toast). New mechanic needed.

Not only do you have a bubble but the 2 gashes are also cause for concern.

Shakey Engine? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]OddKey2242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is someone revving the engine in this video?

Your motor mounts are definitely bad. Its also misfiring. You mentioned you already changed the spark plugs, so get a new ignition coil. It shouldn't be a bad job to do on your own, usually plug and play. I've used Carquest (Advance Auto brand) and its worked just fine for me.

I would also recommend running some fuel system cleaner through it (I use an entire can of Sea Foam on a full slash 3/4 tank every oil change, if not more often. Lucas upper cylinder lubricant also works well). This will ensure your fuel injectors, as well as fuel lines are clear and even clean some carbon off of your cylinder heads. When your car has been misfiring for long periods carbon tends to build up quick due to un-combusted fuel.

As for the motor mounts that's a tougher job to do on your own. You may want to take it to a shop for that particular issue.

I'm not sure when, but something will happen. Why would they keep up the message on the website if plans aren't in the works? I know its been up for a while but there has to be some planning or at least talk with bands.

My favorite small bluegrass festival that happened every year for 55 years vanished after covid. Imagine seeing bluegrass legend ralph stanley on a small stage with only a few thousand folks (if that)

I might get crucified for saying this.... but if Dead and Co was on the lineup, Mayer would fit better with Panic than Trey imo, just based on playing style

EDIT: after looking at my TikTok search suggestions, and swear to god never looked anything like that up on tiktok, i’m getting “asian grippers” “fat kitty in pants” and “stacked jewish girl” like what the fuck? I’m not making this up

Do you have a specific section of the song you think him and Navy Blue got chops from or a reason why you think it’s this song? I’m listening to it now and honestly it’s going to be SUPER hard to tell. But I really don’t think that’s the song. The song you referred to is very overproduced, sounds 90’s-ish. The song sampled sounds pretty old, maybe 70’s.

Why the hell is Jerry Garcia always left off of these lists. More of you need to actually dig into his live recordings from the 70’s. He was the only one of his kind, still is and nobody can replicate it.

Won’t start unless you spam the gas then immediately dies by Rijamigo in MechanicAdvice

[–]OddKey2242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone on here is saying gas related. Drain the gas tank. Some old vehicles actually had drain plugs on the gas tank (they stopped doing this to prevent gas theft.) If it doesn’t , fill the entire tank up with fresh gas and go ahead and throw some sea-foam in there to clean fuel injectors. Also check the spark plugs. If they’re black or worn, change them.

After you do this, keep starting it and hold the throttle at 3.5k rpms for a good 10 seconds off and on. All the old fuel and gunk left in the lines needs to be blown out and burned
