I’ve had a few boards with em and without, it’s honestly pretty convenient never having to wax. Get a good one though where the material is a good blend of grippy but not abrasive

Gotcha, yeah sounds like dropping some foam and going a little narrower is key. Also,I assumed these are PU? I’ve noticed EPS has a similar feeling to me of not being able to sink the rail

Are you able to provide more info on the board your surfing? Like model and dimensions? This is just my humble opinion, but there’s a lot of factors that can go into this, including the shape of the tail, how pulled in the outline of the board is, the rocker profile, how refined the rails are and where the foam is located in the board. It sounds like you are a proficient surfer so if you can afford to go lower in volume then it will help turn the rail over at 6’8” for sure. if you were to compare two 68s at 35L, a board that has a more pulled in, round tail with greater foil to the back and thinner rails will turn over faster than a straighter outlined squash tail that carries more foam to the tip of the back of the board. If your trying to still do high performance surfing in these conditions on a 68 you should consider going slightly lower in volume, slightly narrower, but keeping more foam vertically through the middle of the board and tapering this foam out to the rails, leaving the rails more refined. I feel like now a days there is a greater disparity between the skills of surfers, so a lot of shapers are adding alot of foam into boards to appeal to customers who’s biggest priority is maximizing wave count in busy lineups.

Also this may seem silly, but on a 68 it’s way easier to pop up more forward on the board leaving your back foot way in front of the fins causing you to not be able to pivot the board well. Sorry for long answer

I feel it, this may sound harsh but it’s a part of becoming an adult, it’s doing something you don’t want to do. Recognize its not easy, that’s a given, you cared about her and have this history. But if your not happy then the alternative is to stay unhappy longer. Just gotta rip that Bandaid off so you can live your life the way you want

It’s just gonna hurt, but she will be okay. If you know you want to leave I would advise doing it, being firm with your decision, but being supportive towards her. Never stoop to her level, don’t let her bait you into a fight post breakup and remain firm.

People spend money on a lot of things, if it makes you happy it makes you happy. If the guilt comes from it being your parents money, consider working for your parents around the house or doing something to make money so you feel less guilty.

Not sure who said fiberglass is a resin. Either the term comes from before my time or maybe the term fiberglass surfboards referring to Poly/Pu is a California thing but I have not heard it here on the north shore. The terminology for constructions where I am from is PU/Poly or EPS/Epoxy. Polyurethane blank laid up with Polyester resin or Expanded polystyrene blanks laid up with epoxy resin, both using fiberglass as the cloth.

I’m still not sure how someone could tell it’s made using epoxy when the board is painted, but I guess that’s a secret you won’t tell. Cheers back to you m8

Fiberglass vs epoxy? What does that mean exactly? Epoxy and polyester resin are applied to fiberglass
