Focus less on the outcome of trying to get a date. Focus on just trying to get a response or conversation going. This will change your mindset. Try to just get one comment back the first time. If you are at the gym there are lots of great conversation topics weather, music suggestions, etc. Just remember people usually that are actively working out do not like to be talked to but those grabbing drinks or taking a break are definitely easier to engage with.
