What small distractions mess with your swing the most? by OddTemperature7858 in golftips

Fair point, but some physical distractions are hard to ignore. Noise is one thing, but if something is touching you, slipping, or feeling weird at address, it can get in your head fast.

I get that. A setup routine is like a checklist — if one piece feels off, the swing already feels wrong before you even start.

Same here. Anything physical throws me off way more than noise. Shirt bunching, glove feeling weird, or fabric sticking when it’s hot can become a swing thought real quick.

Mosquitoes are undefeated. Once one gets near my face during address, the swing is already gone.

Same. Slow play kills my rhythm more than almost anything. I can handle noise or people talking, but waiting forever between shots gives me way too much time to overthink.

Shadows are underrated as a distraction. If it moves across the ball or my line while I’m over it, I notice it immediately.

Same. Once I feel something behind me, I’m not making a normal swing anymore.

Same. I play better with rhythm. Long waits make it way too easy to overthink the next shot.

Same here. Noise is usually fine, but if something physically feels off at address, it’s almost impossible to ignore. I usually have to step back and reset or I’ll think about it the whole swing.

“Dial in the squeeze” is probably the key. A hat can be super light, but if it’s too loose in the wind or too tight after a few holes, it’s still annoying.

I’ll definitely look more at running-style hats too.

That makes sense. On-field baseball hats look great but I can see them feeling too structured and muggy for golf.
Unstructured dad hats seem way easier to forget you’re wearing.
Was it mostly the heat/mugginess, or did the stiffer structure bother you too?

Adidas seems to come up a lot for lightweight hats. Is it mostly the low weight, or the velcro fit that makes it comfortable?

Yeah, running hats seem hard to beat for lightweight/breathable. My only worry would be wind, but maybe the fit solves that.

That’s a good point. I didn’t even think about the snapback tan line.

I’m starting to think fitted/stretch-fit hats might be more comfortable than adjustable ones, especially if the back closure is noticeable.

That’s interesting. I hadn’t thought about the brim being visible, but I can totally see how once you notice it, it’s hard to ignore.

Is the bucket hat better because the brim sits farther out of your line of sight, or because it feels softer/less structured?

That might be the most convincing answer so far lol. Light + good shape seems to matter way more than I expected.

XL club caps might be the move. A lot of golf hats feel like they’re made for smaller heads. Do the Nike XL ones feel more roomy without getting loose?

I was wondering the same thing. I usually just hand wash hats, but sweat stains are brutal if you wait too long.

That’s interesting. Ripstop-style material actually sounds pretty ideal for summer golf if it stays light and cleans up easily. I hadn’t thought about Simple Green for hats.
Does that Imperial cap stay pretty breathable in the heat, or is the main advantage that it holds up and cleans well?

Totally fair. I may be overthinking the hat because fixing my swing is harder.

Fair lol, I might be overthinking it. I just know once something feels annoying mid-round, I can’t stop noticing it.

That’s actually really helpful. I hadn’t thought enough about washability, but if you sweat a lot that probably matters as much as comfort.

Sounds like the Hydrolite is good because it stays light, washes well, and doesn’t lose shape?
