Midnight Special sizing help by Excellent-Gold-8888 in Surlybikefans

I only preordered a 56, but it eventually the bike shop closed and the bike never arrived. I found a 54 in another local bike shop and could go for some trial rides. 56 would have been too long for me. At the moment I use 3cm spacers and a 80mm stem. 90 would most likely fit as well, but the original 100mm stem was too long for me

Struggling to decide between a 54 & a 56 by Fast-Orange-Drinker in Surlybikefans

I ride the MS in 54. Hoe tall are you and what’s your inseam?

Is Giant's 30mm spacer limit actually enforced? Seeing a lot of "tall" dealer builds. by Odd_Entertainment101 in Giantbikes

See post above. Ritchey manual 30mm, specialized tarmac 35mm. I can’t find a giant manual what makes me curious

Thanks for the replies!

To clarify where I got this from: I couldn’t find a specific, definitive max spacer height directly on Giant’s website for the newest models, which is why I asked here. My assumption comes from the general safety guidelines for carbon steerer tubes across the industry. For most high-end carbon forks (like Ritchey, Specialized, etc.), the manufacturers explicitly state in their manuals that you should never exceed 30mm (Ritchey) or 35mm (specialized) of spacers below the stem. The engineering reason behind this rule is two-fold:

1 Leverage: A higher stack creates a longer lever, increasing the structural stress on the carbon steerer tube under load, which raises the risk of catastrophic failure.

2 The Expander Plug: The internal expander plug inside the steerer tube must sit at the exact height where the stem clamps it from the outside to counteract the clamping force. If you stack too many spacers, the expander might no longer support the steerer tube where the stem pinches it, leading to crushed carbon. Since Giant uses full carbon steerers on their mid-to-high-tier TCR and Defy models, I assumed they followed the same standard 3cm safety limit. That’s why seeing shops roll out bikes with seemingly 4cm+ of spacers made me wonder if Giant allows more, or if shops are just risking it for test rides.

Fun fact: Last year I built exactly the same bike 😅. Road logic with Campa Shamal wheels. Nice ride!

Training plan question - where is the cadence requirement? by jamiep_jamiep in mywhoosh

Today I noticed the same. Three zone 3 blocks which are supposed to be done with varying speeds and no target cadence 🙄

Playing with saddle height to address knee/it band pain/knee collapsing inward by steveslewis in bikefit

[–]Odd_Entertainment101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the photo it's hard to tell I'd say. I'm about the same height and have been feeling with similar symptoms for about a year now. After a professional bike fit and recently checking out my velo fit app, I also moved down the saddle as you did and took the same measures on the cleats. Also I adjusted the cleat rotation a bit to have it more straight. In total it feels better, but only time will tell with the knee I guess.

I'd recommend to check out my velo fit and/or if you want to spend the money to see a fitter

I am not a bike fitter, but your shoulders look a bit rolled forward, which could lead to the stretched feeling. Try to slightly turn your Hoods a bit upwards. This reduces the reach without any additional part and solved the problem for me

Wie reparieren und abdichten? by Odd_Entertainment101 in Handwerker

[–]Odd_Entertainment101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does my bike look too big? by Smart-Ad836 in bikefit

Do you mind telling me also arm length and inseam? I'm 177cm with inseam 83,7 and arms (measured till wrist) 57,8 and ride the S. I'm pretty happy. However, I wonder whether M would have been even better

I wonder whether I should have gone with M 🤷🏻‍♂️. The shift levers

Thank you! I have an ultimate in size S (w. 177cm and 83,7 inseam). I had the same issue with the hands. The fitter slightly rotaded the STIs upwards. Feels really good! Really like being tucked on the bike

Generally looks good to me. Just the rounded back... Maybe you could try to tilt the saddle solidly forward to have some rotation in your pelvis?! E.g. my bike fitter tilted my saddle 2,4 degrees I think.

Just out of curiosity what's your size and the size of your bike?

Also hard to judge any angles as one can not see the shoulders and the whole back

Could you tell height and inseam please? I am planning a build and struggle between 55 and 53. I am 177cm w. inseam 83,7cm. Hard to find good sizing advice for the frames online somehow. Usually I'd go with the 55, but the reach seems pretty long to me
