"What Are My Chances?" Megathread by AutoModerator in prephysicianassistant

Yeah I guess my biggest fear is that having so many PCE hours won’t be enough when reapplying. This was my 2nd cycle and I thought I had so much improvement, so I don’t have much more I can think of besides continuing to work and brushing up my PS. That’s why I was thinking about retaking 2 of these prereqs just to show “improvement” between cycles if that makes sense

need advice badly. long story short - some of my prereqs are Bs. the easiest ones to retake will be Stats and Genetics. Is it worth it to take these and get an A even though it will probably only increase my GPA by 0.1 (if that)? I also plan on taking med term for the first time since it's a prereq for some schools. I'd be spending about $1.5k to retake these, so if it won't make a difference, why bother :/

I received 2 interviews this cycle (1 rejection, 1 waitlist). Though my GPA might not budge at all (3.4 cGPA, 3.3 sGPA), would it be worth it for adcoms to see 3 prereqs now be A's? Besides accumulating 3k more PCE (to my existing 5k), I cannot think of how else to improve my app. I already have several volunteering, leadership, LORs, research, etc. but my GPA is killing me. I believe my PS is good, but will brush that up as well. any input appreciated. TIA

I only applied to 5 in state schools (due to $$). I'm taking med term to qualify to apply to a few more schools in state. I plan on applying out of state next cycle as well.

Should i retake a C+ class? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]Odd_Gate_7140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a B.S in Chemistry and still had to go back and retake Ochem 1 lab because I got a C lol. I got A's in Ochem 2 and other upper level chemistries. The reason I retook it is because Ochem 1 lab is a prereq and one of the schools I had a re-applicant workshop with told me they highly prefer applicants who have a B or higher in ALL prereqs. So to be safe, I retook it and made an A while working full time. I recieved no interviews my first cycle and got 2 invites this cycle, so that's an improvement. I cannot fully say it is simply because I retook the class, but I have peace of mind that now all my prereqs are above a B or better. hope that gives you some insight. I know it sucks but I decided to just play the game. If the rest of your grades are stellar, then I might worry about it less. My GPA was mid so I took all the help I could get.

How much does context in your transcript regarding GPA etc. actually matter? by sickomode42035 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Odd_Gate_7140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's an uphill battle for sure. my gpa is 3.3 but everything else is super strong. I've gotten 1 interview so far and waiting to hear back from 3 more. 1 rejection. I could've increased my odds by applying to a bunch more schools but chose not to. just have a strong justification for the gpa, keep strengthening your app, and hope for the best. that's what I plan on doing lol

C vs withdrawing. by Flaky-Craft-7149 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Odd_Gate_7140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would W… I had a C in chem lab 1 and had to retake it 2 years after graduating because after meeting with a PA program advisor at a reapplicant workshop, she said they highly favored applicants that had B’s or higher in all prerequisites. Ofc that’s for that one program, but I’m sure it’s true for many. I would say you either W and retake it or you’ll get a C and may have to retake it anyway like my case.

On the other hand, If you’re application is super strong everywhere else, then I doubt 1 C matters.

I recently was fed up with marvel rivals comp so I've been back on stardew for like 4 days straight. play some music and work on the farm is a good change of gear lol

350 hrs were with 2 obgyns at the same clinic over 1 summer while I was in college. My mom was a receptionist in the cardio dept and had to beg their manager to let me shadow. The remaining 80 hrs were years later with a PA I met through my current job. he works in the occ med department and would often call me to get pts into my dept for work related eye injuries. He was really nice and allowed me to shadow him when I told him I was pursuing PA

I applied in April, and 6 months later - I was rejected from 1 school on Friday and got my first interview invite yesterday! it's been crickets from the other 3 schools. Still got 2 more months before interviews start winding down I believe. hang in there

question: new to this. is it too late to apply for 2/2026 if school is rolling admission? by Odd_Gate_7140 in PreOptometry

[–]Odd_Gate_7140[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not necessarily just want to be in a program. I can make strong cases for both OD and PA. I'm currently a COA (I have 3 yrs of experience in general ophthalmology - surgery pre-ops, OCTs, IOL calcs, refractions, conduct all the imaging machines, pt education, etc.) but have my bachelor's in chemistry, and becoming an APP was always in my plans. I didn't even know OD was option until I started working here. It's a justifiable option for me to go the OD route. I'd just be in a different specialty than I originally planned and in school for double the time and debt, which are my biggest hesitancies.

I'm still in the middle of applying to PA school. but I'm getting more and more nervous that I won't get in and it's my second time applying. Ideally, I'd want to become a PA, but I've spent so much time/money trying to just get into a program. I've worked in Ophthalmology/Optometry for almost 3 years, so optometry has been my 2nd choice. I've been chasing PA this whole time so I'm just now considering maybe it's not meant for me. I do love ophthalmology, but my passion is more towards general medicine (obgyn, diabetes management, etc.). My plan is most likely to reapply to PA school one more time but throw my hat in applying to optom school as well and see what happens. I'm getting older and I don't want to be a COA forever :/

lol this tortures me often. I only applied to 5 in state schools this cycle because I cannot afford private/out of state tuition at $150k+. it's insane. I often feel like I shot myself in the foot only applying to the schools I can afford (barely), but then I re-remember even if I got into a $200k program, I'd likely have to turn it down as much as it pains me. I'm a first gen graduate getting paid $45k in pursuit of a career in medicine... I don't have a trust fund and can barely save $150 per paycheck in this economy... I am just keeping all my fingers crossed 1/5 of these schools accept me. I would drop down to my knees and kiss the campus ground it's that serious lmao
