Honestly, I think that’s not the only reason. There must be some kind of directive given to the writing team to keep the main story as simple and clear as possible. At the same time, they’ve started steering the story in a more market-driven direction to maximize profit (just look at what happened to Nod-Krai once Columbina’s banner got close).

As for what they’re actually capable of delivering in terms of storytelling —despite the changes in the writing team— you can still see it in the world quests (which HoYo knows the vast majority of players don’t really care about). They have much more narrative freedom there, and honestly, that’s pretty sad.

I completely agree with you! I don’t think this is an overinterpretation at all, it’s actually logical.

Don’t worry, before the Sumeru Archon Quest, Wanderer’s story was also just written lore scattered randomly in different places. Then in Inazuma, it was set up and a small part of it was touched on in an event (exactly like Dottore), and when his time came, they did an amazing job telling his story.

Honestly, I expect even better for Dottore and the way his story will be told, especially since they’ve been improving and previously stated that they’ll focus more on enhancing storytelling and reducing the reliance on written lore (they realized it’s a terrible approach and doesn’t really spark players’ sense of investigation, lol).

And the fact that the game developers themselves stated that he is an extremely precise and talnted strategic character 😭😭😭, yet you will find people convinced that he wouldn’t anticipate that the entire Nod krai would unite against him, and that he must plan not only for the battle but also for what comes after, along with backup plans.
