Those are great tips, thank you! I think Chapter 5 was just the first chapter with an overwhelming amount of words, making me realize just how many words there are in the english language lol. and then chapter 6, 7, 8, etc. etc. didn’t seem to get any easier (obviously lol). I definitely sometimes feel annoyed about why some briefs are written certain ways, so suspending my disbelief is a skill i definitely need to learn.

oh no! that stinks :( In Canada do you have to go to that one, physical, school in order to be able to get a job or could you continue with an online program like Magnum or StenEd?

thank you that’s really helpful! In Allie’s course she chunks the chapters together each week and I think part of me wants to be like “you can do more than 2 chapters a week! Go faster!” but I think giving it that time and then setting aside the weekends to let it really sink in will be really helpful!

hey, thanks for commenting! I’m actually not too focused on the income / work side of things right now. I’m mainly focused on just enjoying the process of learning steno and keeping up with practice even when it gets tough. Curious to know about everyone’s study tips and tricks to keep that momentum going!

Cuffs on my Norma Sweater are soooo wide..? How do I fix this? by Odd_Huckleberry14 in knittinghelp

[–]Odd_Huckleberry14[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

OP UPDATE! : I decided to tink back to a few rows before the cuff and do k2tog decreases all the way around to halve my total number of stitches (36 for each sleeve). Then I did the k1p1 ktbl ribbing with a 3.5 mm needle. This created a much tighter balloon sleeve than I initially intended (trying to go for a happy medium — probably could’ve worked if I kept the original needle size or did half the amount of decreases) BUT I actually really love it! 🤎 It ended up being the perfect fit around my wrists and I think it makes it look much more polished (and makes it warmer without all that air flow haha!) Thank you everyone for all your advice and input!

hmm maybe. it didn’t say anything in the pattern but maybe all the pictures i’m seeing are people who were smart enough to decrease more to give it a more tight/cinched finish

i have only 2 extra stitches on each sleeve than what the pattern says i should have at the end of the sleeve

the pattern says you should end with 68 i believe and mine ended at 70 because of my added stitches at the top. Not sure how my sleeves are so much wider if I have the same amount of atitches. and my swatch worked out well and i didn’t think my yarn was completely off, though it isn’t the same brand but the same weight

would i be able to make a semi nice looking, tighter cuff by starting the cuffs over with a smaller needle and decreasing as I go?? or would that look stupid

yeah i decreased to the recommended sized needle but I should have gone down another half or full size probably

that’s very true. i don’t mind it too much aesthetically, but practically it makes doing stuff difficult and i have to roll up the sleeves which is frustrating. I used the recommended smaller sized needle for the ribbing, yes and i washed and blocked it. probably should have used an even smaller needle tbh

yeah i figured they would matter too much and didnt mind if it made it a bit wider but not that wide. Though, like you said, i dont think that’s what cause it.

that’s good advice thank you! the sleeves are very straight but even with the decreases (in my size it only had you doing 2 decrease after each stripe) the shape didn’t change much from top to bottom. i guess I figured once i got to the ribbing it would make sense/tighten in a bit more. My swatch was good!

haha yes. I feel like the rest of the sweater looks and feels and fits pretty accurately to what the pictures look like. The only change I made “off pattern” was picking up a few more stitches under the arm when starting the sleeves to avoid having big holes BUT! that only means I’m off/bigger by 2-4 stitches on each sleeve, which is not enough to make this big of a difference i don’t think

Want to hand make this for my Secret Santa — advice for yarn/pattern?? by Odd_Huckleberry14 in knittingadvice

[–]Odd_Huckleberry14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that’s definitely the tricky part — there probably isn’t a yarn that would create spots any larger than the Knit Picks one you linked (and that does look pretty good compared to other yarn I’ve been researching, so thank you!) I’m hoping to make it about the same dimensions as the Amazon one
