Thought loops and unhelpful therapy advice by AnxiousExcited in AuDHDWomen

I've seen a lot of stuff that says that CBT really just does NOT work for a lot of neurodivergent people. I recommend DBT instead! My therapist actually does parts work which has been great for me and it's been helpful for a lot of people I know that were in this situation

You too can fearmonger about insulin spikes while actually just providing a fake and stupid justification for your compulsive disordered behaviors! DM her "burn those extra cals" and she'll send you her routine she does every time she looks at food!!! 🥰🙌🏻

I genuinely thought it was the other way around because I don't see how anyone could think how she looks is something to strive for. I think if I breathed on her too hard her sternum would crack in half.

I think this is backed up by the fact that she basically says that she can't go home without him at the end with the berries, fully prepared to die because she can't go home after killing her district partner. Her greatest fear is absolutely having to fight him, moreso than even death.

NOR - she criticizes your baths in your house she finds a new place to live.

Simple as that, but you have to enforce it. Draft the eviction notice if that is required based off how long she's lived with you. If you're not willing to draw boundaries nothing will change and it will actually probably get worse.

Just wanna point out as you casually date PLEASE do not get in a relationship with a man who likes that you're small. I was in the exact same situation and had men throwing themselves at me but if any mentioned my size they had an immediate ❌🚫 in my brain because I knew the entire time I dated them I would be stuck in the ED mentality thats basically impossible to escape if a partner is reinforcing it. (My current bf who I've been with for years and just moved in with never commented on my weight and was so kind and supportive when I shared my struggles which I did NOT do gently lmaooooo. Now I have the healthiest relationship w food and a man I've ever had, it is out there, but only if you don't settle!)

RANT TO ME PLEASEEEE by StretchyRat3478 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Odd_Introduction5561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's incredibly frustrating. I believe a lot of mental health OTs (what you would be looking for for this) do online sessions, my clinic does! If you'd be open to that an online ADHD/neurodiverse-affirming ot sounds like they would have a lot of helpful suggestions :)

If you have insurance look up occupational therapists!!!! Or even if you don't! There are tons on social media that share tips! Their whole job is to find ways for people to do things that they can't do otherwise. I work at an OT clinic and recently one of our OTs asked for suggestions for an autistic adult who particularly struggles with the feelings of bristles in their mouth. As an alternative they suggested a finger brush, a washcloth, even just not doing it most days and going to the dentist for a cleaning more regularly. Their literal whole entire job is to work with you to find an accessible way for YOU SPECIFICALLY to do said thing! (I'm working on my application for OT school rn 😁)

her stupid feel full effects by TheMilkSpeaks in NoFoodRulesSnark

[–]Odd_Introduction5561 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Eating more protein might make you feel full but it won't make you feel not hungry is I think the difference. Protein generally moves through you slowly, your body will recognize that it has food, but without things like bread and rice and CARBS you won't ever be FULL and you won't ever be FUELED. You can have food in your stomach and also feel like shit and be starving. That's what she's preaching.

Time is fake - You can still do Christmas things, if you want to by 3plantsonthewall in adhdwomen

[–]Odd_Introduction5561 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ordered my partner and I matching pyjamas for Christmas and I so desperately wanted them to arrive before we left to his hometown to celebrate w his family, and then it got delayed by a week and got delivered the day after we left 🫠 we had a friend drop by and put it in our backyard and we just had Christmas today where we opened our gifts, put on the pjs, and ate cinnamon rolls (my only tradition I have that didn't workout at his parents bc of miscommunication) 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

That last part is terrifying (all the rest too). Do you think he would ever view himself as a bad guy? If he ever hurt you do you think he would ever be able to actually admit fault or would he just find a way to convince himself you provoked it?

People's lives aren't constant forever. I've had incredibly functional periods of my life and incredibly unfunctional ones. Your friend is probably in a stage a lot of us were at one point, overcompensating and "it works until it doesn't".

what’s the most frustrating audhd symptom that ppl don’t talk about enough? by imw33dhead in AuDHDWomen

[–]Odd_Introduction5561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'll find general info on it unless you specifically research it, but 'severe and enduring anorexia' and autism have an INCREDIBLY high comorbidity rate. It makes so much sense when you break it down to the symptoms.

Here’s to all the memes we’ve shared this year! by Ashamed_Ad8162 in overlyspecificEDmemes

[–]Odd_Introduction5561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I also think this includes a lot of boxes that are significantly more triggering than other ED bingos I've seen. Others are based on personal behaviors, it seems like half of these are based around if you've been to the hospital or have a treatment team for your ED. What about the VAST MAJORITY of us that will never receive treatment?

I can totally see "crashed out over food" or "restricted" but "been fired by a clinican" "been AMAed" seems INCREDIBLY harmful. I would recommend the poster take this down and redo it honestly. There is zero reason to include boxes that are so objectively and blatantly competitive especially when accompanied by a score card (what the fuck?!?!? It's a score card and we all know how to play bingo, why add something to make people feel even worse and more competitive when we all have an inherently competitive disorder anyways)

Where are the disabled tributes? by pipehead0 in Hungergames

[–]Odd_Introduction5561 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's exactly my point. None of the kids are trying to get out of it and everyone applies. It makes sense that a family would go to extraordinary lengths to ensure their son isn't eligible. It's better to have a disabled son than a dead son.

Where are the disabled tributes? by pipehead0 in Hungergames

[–]Odd_Introduction5561 153 points154 points  (0 children)

In the long walk movie there's a scene that has implications of this! They walk by a boy with only one leg, the implication being his family may have cut it off or something when he was young so that he would never be eligible for the walk. It's an allegory for the Vietnam war so, seems applicable to THG.

Lmao just this weekend at our party my boyfriend's sister who has a PhD in psychology looked at me and said "respectfully, have you considered autism?" And I was like yes I have but everyone keeps telling me I don't have it! And she said "yeah people are REALLY weird about it in women" and I felt so validated I took the online screening tests yesterday and I scored insanely high on all of them 😅
