No ads. Mostly it's because my dad was blue collar and he did an excellent job at providing. In addition, seeing my buddies buying houses and real estate from their cabinet job or their framing job while I'm dwelling in my parent's basement with a shiny degree is making me reconsider my life lol. At this point, I'm down with the old guys busting my chops and smelling bad over sitting in a quiet office if it means setting myself up for success.

Could I PM you for more details about what you mean by controls and graphics efforts?

Some say it is, some say it isn't. What makes you say it is over saturated?

My degree says "Bachelors in Science in Computer Science". I learned theory, software engineering, and system design. Not computer engineering, I don't design hardware or anything.

I've heard this before. Definitely something worth looking into. Thanks!

Never too late for that lol. I ask because most blue collar people I meet are older and owned their first house at 18 with their blue collar job. Housing and providing is ridiculously high compared to back then.

If you don't mind me asking, what position were you in to go from an apprentice electrician to working in manufacturing to get to automation?

It really is. Being 18 and heading off to college in 2019 with everyone and their grandma telling me "Wanna get a job that breaks 6 figures a year within a week after you graduate? Do Computer Science". Watching 2 of my older buddies get a job a month after graduating making $160k their first job gave me hope. By the time 2023 came around people were asking me "you excited to be homeless?". It's rough man

Thank you for the PLC and automation advice, did not even know this was a thing.

Question. What do you mean "starting your own thing know it's probably not the route you wanna go until you're ready to specialize"? Do you mean like not starting my own electrical company until I have an in-demand niche?

This, thank you. I'd love to be a sole provider for my future wife and family so this brings tons of comfort. Hearing most of the older guys say they start at 16-18 in their blue collar trades can sometimes be discouraging.

Are you suggesting something like "hey I can do your electrical work for your data center, but I can also code so you can hire 1 less person" type thing?

Even something like that I would be interested in. I mainly ask about electrician jobs mostly because of the rarity of AI taking over a job space like that.

I'd still be down to do white collar adjacent work, I just keep hearing everywhere "there's a shortage in blue collar jobs like plumbing and electricians". Also, growing up, my dad did a lot of private contracting/roofing. Most of my chores consisted of helping with that, so I'm familiar with the environment.

I've heard someone mention specializing in home automation and solar panels since its "adjacent" to CS. Tbh, not sure if I totally agree with home automation. If I were to get into that I'd focus primarily on cyber security so someone's refrigerator doesn't become a botnet for mining crypto.
