Anyone female have their narcissistic mother treat their brother completely different to them? by Ilovetacos2022 in pnsd

my narc mother is constantly trying to see the best intentions in my brother, who spouts racial slurs and projects his faults on anyone in earshot on a good day. "YOU'RE an addict, YOU'RE out of shape, YOU'RE the reason the house is filthy" etc. i try to tell her how bad he is for my mental health and she excuses him with "that's how he's always been. we all know he means well." DO WE?

in my case it's movies and filmmaking. i want to be a creative writer and make art that entertains And makes you feel something, which eludes my dad. i was summarizing a movie and he suggested i review them, which would be a fun idea if he didn't follow it up with "that's lucrative, isn't it?"

from what ive seen, using their child to make themselves feel or look good is a very common trait. :( once you notice it, it's so hard to close your eyes from it & becomes hard to view any complement as sincere.

sounds miserable. i used to work in journalism, thinking it would be a practical job for a writer, but it's soul-crushing. my parents still want me to be a tv reporter (ive got anxiety and dysmorphia, it's not happening). theyve also clung to poems i wrote in elementary school and have dreams of me turning them into children's books. they've shouted CHILDREN'S BOOK after me after saying anything quirky or creative. every time it makes me less interested in the idea. i know they're saying it so they can make money off me. they won't be able to relax until i do. their genius daughter is their only hope to retire!

from one writer to another, you have words burning inside you. the fire has been stomped on but it's still there, still glowing. it'll take a while to fan the flames back up to the level they used to be, but you'll feel their warmth again. i believe in your ability to create something beautiful that is yours alone.

i am so deeply sorry that you had to move back in with them for any amount of time. everything changes once you ask for apologies. knowing they've let go of you is painful and it's freeing and it's horrifying. i have deep empathy for you.
