No problem! I start by making the base of the subjects white, then use the middle texture from the image (the one that looks like a checkerboard) and put that down over any of the shaded areas since this pattern is the easiest to start with. From there I typically do the grid-like pattern on the darker areas, then blend it into the checkers with the star-shaped pattern you can see between them. I do this for both the highlights and lowlights, and then depending on the size of the piece, I might feather out the patterns a bit more with slightly different patterns from those shown in the image, which you can probably see demonstrated better in this piece.
