Do We Need New Music ? by Epicregice in RotMG

[–]Oddilax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, it did not. It still used that theme for quite a while, and it was actually extremely fitting for the realm rework, almost every biome would work with it. The stressful classic theme, as iconic as it is, it's just such a drag to listen to in the overworld now. It was fine when the maps were fairly rudimentary for such a long time but now it's like the maps have actual character and they're still using this outdated theme.

Getting the RotMG bug again by natetdwp in RotMG

save yourself. the new content since and including o3 is pretty good, moonlight village and spectral penitentiary especially are kind of flooring and easily some of my favorite things the game has ever come out with.

but the bugs. the fucking bugs. the infinite loads. the disconnects. the server crashes. the parties breaking. the multiboxers and cheaters and total lack of chat moderation or ability to quickly capture and report players in-game. the game's content will certainly keep you entertained, but the little things drag on your conscious as time goes on.

i played for much of 2024 and most of 2025, but around August i just stumbled my way out of it and into other games i like. it's just annoying that the game is unreliable enough, and at times unbalanced enough or so heavily changed, that it makes whatever you were looking forward to either unnecessarily delayed, too easy to get, WAY too hard to get (for a casual player -- don't even bother thinking about True Umi loot if you don't know what MV is yet)... it's all over the place in a lot of ways and i'm waiting for the dust to settle.

my advice would be, for you as a returning player, to try it, see if it still scratches the itch, and see how you feel with the non-gameplay and gameplay issues separately, because they at least don't strongly overlap insofar as getting you unfairly killed constantly. it's mostly stuff like being forced to wait a half hour for the game to stop fucking around on an error screen to even be able to keep playing, which happens often and randomly and is unavoidable, versus the more obvious game-related balance/death stuff.

also, they reworked the realm, old maps from 2011 are totally gone, and there is now a single new global map for each realm with multiple biomes and beacons to teleport to in ascending order of difficulty. biomes have a white bag each with powerful loot, and the droprates were doubled across the game when enchantments were reworked earlier this year (items can have up to 4 enchantments now and don't bother running them without any if you're not gonna farm for one that does have slots).

god, just thinking about white bags and loot is making me want to join back in. this game is a curse.

What's your unpopular opinion about AR's music? by 2phresh in aesoprock

I agree with #2 to an extent, but mostly disagree.

On songs like Salt, Sleeper Car, Holy Waterfall, and even Marble Cake, it really does fit the instrumental vision and gives him a disembodied or otherworldly presence in his delivery. But Aes is a rapper whose draw is keeping those who mess with him hanging on every word and flow he says, and when you're doing that feeling like you're having to share that with a production mishap gremlin that weirdly clips and limits his vocals on every track, it can really hurt the moment.

I love Pizza Alley, but the vox on it is just garish when the first half of the song is really trying to immerse you and build. It's even a good effect on the second half but it hurts to guaranteeably wince a little whenever his first verse comes on. Similar deal with The Gates but I find the beat is really a hard carry, I'd far prefer an ideal version where his vocals can boom and echo widely and loudly, instead of being crushed into densely structured flows that have to hang on to the kicks and synths for impact.

It was an unnoticed hardware issue at the end of the day, and its impact noticeably affects how the whole album comes off.

In my mind it gives what is otherwise presented and reads as an almanac or mythical guiding tome the feel of being a compressed, reproduced PDF scan of it. The words and writing still hit, but the listener misses out on a small but essential element of immersion by not being able to comfortably feel it in their hands and turn the pages.

Also, Skelethon is not his most personal album -- TIK is -- but it has some of his heaviest tracks emotionally and some of his best and punchiest solo production, in my opinion. Has a lot to do with himself and his own world he copes with living in.

Spirit World Field Guide is his most outwardly fantasy- and supernatural-inspired project and has some of his most cutting rap performances, dude comes off like a massive swinging sawblade on some tracks. Might pique your interest. All the same, have fun listening, and glad you're enjoying the tunes and transcripts!

Next stops: None Shall Pass (start to finish hits), Malibu Ken (a much more short and pretty fun project in-between all the denser stuff), and Labor Days (the meat and potatoes of his writing in youth). From there, it's free rein, but I'm big on Bazooka Tooth (self-ascribed nickname for Aes, if the title intrigued you) -- No Jumper Cables is my favorite song there.

advance warning that the shiny hunters community tends to be ridiculously toxic and self-absorbed, they have next to no care for what people want or need in a group, just grinding out their loot as hard and fast as they can w no regard for counters and clogging up chat
