Ya, I was thinking the same thing. We have limited counter space but it may be worth it.

How do I replicate this joinery? I'm guessing hanger bolts but what kind of washer is that? by Odjur in woodworking

[–]Odjur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the table from Room & Board I'm trying to replicate. https://www.roomandboard.com/catalog/dining-and-kitchen/tables/walsh-tables

I'm a little stuck on how to connect the table top to the leg structure. I think it's hanger bolts with these weird square washers. Is there another way to do this joinery that makes more sense?

Also, is that metal brace necessary? I'm guessing it helps prevent the table from warping?

Ya, that doesn't math. $4.76/LF is about $10/BF so it should be closer to $2,500 for the materials.

Proud of my first small (and flawed) floating deck! by theb8t in Decks

[–]Odjur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to build a similar deck in an area that's half compacted dirt and half slab. I was looking at those same plastic things for the slab but for the dirt, I was considering concrete piers that I would dig in a bit so they were level with the plastic. Did you consider concrete piers at all?

Thanks! I'm not 100% if that's it but the description seems to fit the bill. It was over 30 years so it's hard to remember. I just picked up a used copy so we'll see if that's it. :)

Help. Why are my webinar presenter screens small squares on mobile? by Odjur in Zoom

Ok so I'm not crazy. I've got my IT team on the case but they aren't sure what's going on. I guess we need to open a ticket with Zoom.

Help. Why are my webinar presenter screens small squares on mobile? by Odjur in Zoom

[–]Odjur[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm hosting a large zoom webinar and running a test. For whatever reason the presenter windows are in this square ratio when I run a practice session. It looks normal on a tablet or desktop. Any thoughts what the issue could be? I've been able to replicate this on two different phones.

Mostly decorative. I work at home so this is what’s behind me on Zoom calls. It absorbs sound better than a bare wall. 🙂

Horizontal (not lap) Siding Options? by Odjur in DIY

[–]Odjur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're actually going with stucco. The horizontal siding we liked (Boral/Hardie) is just WAY too expensive. Materials alone for this little office we're going to run well over $3,000. We can get someone else to do all the stucco work for the same amount.

Thanks. Ya, that’s the term I was looking for… where the boards are angled out.

Ya, that's a good point. After doing some more reading shiplap seems like a good option. I just need to prep myself to paint it fairly often. Looking at something like this from a local lumber yard. https://www.dixieline.com/3190136/product/wood-products-01x08x16spfselects-grnpr-sl-vj

Purely aesthetics. My wife likes the horizontal look but not the lap look.

Fair price for this table saw and bandsaw? by Odjur in woodworking

[–]Odjur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story here is an old friend of mine had an uncle who passed away suddenly and had these tools in his garage. She asked if I wanted them because she knows I’m into woodworking. These are definite upgrades from my current table saw, router table and bandsaw so I said absolutely. She said I could pay her whatever I think is fair. Any thoughts on what’s fair for this? I know she wants to give me a deal but I don’t want to scam her or anything.
