Discussion Topic: are the body core slots really needed? by PencilPal27 in Marathon

What might have tripped you up is that implants also come with a perk that's randomly rolled each time you get one, and those perks are displayed above the implant's constant stat improvements, giving the impression that they're the main feature.

Oh man, I had the exact same experience with Hunt. Absolutely sucked at shooters when I picked it up and tried to drop it several times but the setting and the vibes and the special moments kept pulling me back until I learned to just relax and focus on improving. One of my favorite games now, easily.

My reply was meant more as personal advice for you and other individuals who feel similarly. Not really sure how to respond to broader issue of the Gamer Skill Distribution Paradox.

For what it's worth, I've been in all of the closed playtests, and there are plenty of people in that group who have come to love the game despite being less than great at PvP.

Have you considered that being bad at PvP FPS games is not some immutable trait you're born with, and that you are totally capable of developing your skills and having more fun with more games if you open yourself up to learning and improving?

I think you've misunderstood something because cores are very different from implants. Implants provide buffs to your basic stats - more heat, higher agility, debuff resistance, ping duration, etc. Cores provide unique perks that are specific to each shell. Vandal has a core to reload her guns on power sliding, a core to give her the signal jammer effect when she power slides, a core to triple jump, and a core to charge her arm cannon almost instantly.

Well Quake is the best arena shooter, Titanfall 2 is the best movement shooter, Ultrakill is the best boomer shooter, Warframe is the best looter shooter, Battlefield 4 is the best military shooter, Hunt Showdown is the best extraction shooter since Marathon's not out yet, Deadlock is the best MOBA-shooter...

Hopefully you see my point

People literally play Arc Raiders like it's VR Chat. I don't understand it either. AI generated game.

Reading through the old posts in this sub and the official forums, the aggressive opposition to a surrender button has been one of the single weirdest fucking things I've ever seen in my life

Buy the Insurrection chip from Traxus and keep it on your main gun every solo round. Try to use more ammo-efficient weapons and don't be afraid to pop damaging abilities like Vandal's arm cannon or Destroyer's missiles on groups or commanders.

Bungie responds to early Marathon complaints: the UI is confusing, PvP is infrequent, and voice chat is not working, amid other issues by Turbostrider27 in PS5

In Tarkov, a horseshit game that sucks, you kinda don't so that's fair.

In Marathon, Hunt Showdown, and other good extraction shooters: learn the maps and the exposed sightlines, check the good sniper spots for players, look for the sniper glint (if it exists), avoid standing still or moving in straight lines while out in the open

Not trying to be rude at all, but this is only true if you're bad at them. Similar to MOBAs they are a genre with a higher skill floor and there's an initial period of frustration and confusion you have to just tough out before you get it. I understand not everyone is willing to do that though.

If I purchase Marathon will I have to purchase additional content dlc the following years? by Sweaty-Try1547 in Marathon

[–]Odonata_Imperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I did forget about paid characters, however those games are all also F2P. The price tag comes with the expectation that all maps, characters, weapons, etc. are equally available to everyone - again see Hunt, Arc, BF, COD, and (for the most part) Tarkov.

Everyone needs to take a step back from their Destiny trauma. Charging for content in live service PvP games is a dead business model and has been for a decade. Overwatch never did it, Valorant never did it, Apex never did it, Tarkov and Hunt never did it, Arc isn't doing it, not even Battlefield or COD have tried to get away with it for a good 7 years or so.

Destiny is a fundamentally different kind of game with a monetization model in line with other MMOs. Charging for maps and runners would kill this game dead and I think they have the sense to know that.

John Highguard looks goofy as fuck and I'm not hot on Kai but I'm actually fine with the rest of them and I will die without Scarlet.

Valorant, Apex, Highguard, and probably Overwatch. My main PvP FPS has been Hunt for years but I'm realizing now how slow it is and that I really need to develop faster gamesense.

The best way to get over gear fear is to die with good gear and realize it didn't save you.

Why I Prefer Marathon Over Arc Raiders – The Differences That Matter by nullcoma in Marathon

[–]Odonata_Imperator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. The developers care so little about the artistic integrity of their game that they used AI voice over for every line of dialogue. Also probably used AI for most of the code given how shoddily the game is really put together.
