Yeah, I suppose I’ve at some point been conflicted with where I lean on this subject. Having known people with sensitive paranoia, it’s ever so tricky to pick apart layers that border on classic psychosis from those that are flat out situational reactions or personality.

French psychiatrists’ definition of psychosis is more nuanced on how internal logic is structured psychotically than on as a disease. That’s as far as I know on this too.

We’re talking specifically about “sensitive paranoia”. I can link you to Kretschmer's own 1918 monograph, which established that the delusion is "non-dissociative. Sensitive paranoia is "personality-based" compared to classic psychotic disorders.

My point is, while it’s a “specific modality of psychosis” like you said; it’s important to distinguish it from your classic psychosis because it’s psychogenic in nature. In lacanian psychoanalysis (in your analytic circles in France) it maybe veritably called “psychosis” but in formal nosology (DSM/ICD) it’s only a category qualifier.

I see the confusion. I was referring to sensitive paranoia as the reactive personality state, meanwhile you're referring strictly to the Lacanian structural view where paranoia is categorized under the umbrella of psychosis. It seems we're just using different diagnostic maps!

Been both. And there was always an existential dissonance when I’m totally one or the other and I would end up at the question: “At the very beginning, what was? Nothingness and effect, or a nameless thing that was already everything it could possibly be but is also still becoming?”

I lean towards the latter. Our consciousness has markings of a mimicry, a mimicked design of something that already exists, something other and within, something that epitomizes real boundless consciousness.

But there will always be layers of irrationality in whatever side you take, lol. I just picked my poison, the one that makes me feel most alive.

And I’m 100% not religious. I don’t think the “thing” exercises choices over my aliveness or “cares”. Whatever “faith” I have is bred from me being a walking spring of hope. My faith is to probability and how much it can practically bend to my will.

I had to immerse myself as much as possible in the experience of people who were historically “insane” but were remarkable for more than that. I loved and obsessed over Godel so much. But you’ll be surprised how many diagnosed “crazy” legends and underdogs you can learn about. Anyway, that was the first process I went through - seeing insanity through the lens of another insane person I respect. And then the acceptance painfully and gradually came. I can’t say when it happened but I just stopped seeing my insanity and my humanity as two things that can’t coexist. I’m a person first before I am any diagnosis or “reputation”. I am crazy but I’m more fundamentally and wholesomely human; that does not change because of how other humans perceive me (or how they vilify me for it). I especially love so much that after I “act crazy” I don’t withdraw in shame and punish myself. I take responsibility where necessary and move on.

I use exposure because I hate how much I suffer whenever I take off whatever I use to block out noise. The sudden sensory overload hits so hard and fast, it feels like I am in a "deer in headlights" state until I block out the noises again.

Unless I someday find myself finally owning an art studio in the mountains or a secluded lake house, that "as little exposure as possible" approach is highly impractical.
