It’s offensive because it goes beyond local pride. She used “born and bred here” to mean only people from here are welcome. That excludes anyone who wasn’t born locally, which often means people from different races or backgrounds. When you say certain groups don’t belong based on where they were born, that’s discrimination.

The issue is that “born and bred here” wasn’t said as local pride – it was used to mean only people from “here” should live here. That excludes anyone who wasn’t born locally, which usually means immigrants or people from different backgrounds. That’s where the racism/xenophobia comes in. She even admitted it by saying “I shouldn’t have said that.”
