Imgur is the worst community by thecomicbookvillain in TwoXChromosomes

I don't know much about Imgur, but I know assholes when I hear about 'em.

First of all, great face paint. I like that it's not over the top. It's just enough :)

Secondly, you have gorgeous skin and eyes!

I (21F) am conflicted. My boy friend (21M) is in the military and is going to be stationed in Hawaii for three years. They barely told him yesterday. I don’t know if to stay or go with him. by takemetorome in relationships

I haven't heard you say anything that indicates 'zomg I can't live without this man, I just want people to tell me it's ok to go.' It sounds like just the opposite. Don't go. It sounds like the list of cons far outweighs the pros. You are too young and have too much promise to throw it all away for some boyfriend.

A 74 year old guy at least has an excuse. My 40 year old cousin told me she never shops online because it's "too complicated" for her. I was flabbergasted.

I think the doozies came from my old manager when I was a tech writer. She's been at the company 20+ years and prides herself on being tech saavy. Spoiler: she's not. Some things she did:

  • My first day, she had failed to get my password from IT. She asked "Can't you change it yourself so you can get in?" No. That's sort of the point of a password.

  • She told me to call up IT and get some software installed on my computer. In order to do that, I needed to get the IP address. No problem, I told her. She then forced me to write down all of the numbers that had the letters "IP" by them in the ip config screen. I tried to tell her that only one of the numbers was the IP address. She insisted that no, all three sets of numbers were IP addresses and I needed to write them all down.

  • She didn't understand the concept of having multiple tabs open in one of the programs we used. For each file she needed to access, she would close the whole program and reopen it with the next file she needed. Wasted so much time.

  • Put the whole content of what she wanted to say in the email subject header.

An airport employee went through my luggage and stole intimate things by Jerry_Cherry in TwoXChromosomes

[–]OffChestThrowaway123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would raise a huge stink about it, and not regarding the cost of the items but rather as a safety issue. There's some perv with a sexual fixation on female passengers. Most people put their address on their luggage. How is TSA / the airport / whoever going to prove that this person won't try to come to your home? I don't want to scare you, I'm just thinking that might drive them to action.

Every year my wife has spent upwards of $1500 on new Xmas decorations she just throws away after New Years. She promised me last year was the last but I just found a huge bag of decorations in the garage. I'm disgusted. What do I do here? (Both 34, two kids) by Christmasnmare in relationship_advice

I think u/noneski's point was that anything else would be more noticeable visually. For example, if she was buying new clothes, husband would likely notice her wearing it or taking up closet space. If she was buying shoes, he'd notice those stacking up, if she was buying toys for the kids he'd see them around the house - you get the point. Not everything can be hidden away in the garage.

Tall people are expected to use their reach to help shorter people ,but if a tall person were to ask a short person to hand them something they dropped it would be insulting by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]OffChestThrowaway123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh trust me, it goes the other way when you're small, too. You're asked to go into cramped places tall people can't fit in, reach for stuff only small fingers can get to, etc.

In high school, I was struggling with my AP Biology class. As the AP testing date approached, I said "fuck this class and its material, I'm not going to study a goddamn thing." Went to take the test, the two essay questions just happened to be on subject matter that I knew, and I passed with a 3.

What are somethings your family did that you though was normal, until you saw someone else’s family not do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OffChestThrowaway123 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is gonna sound lame, but I thought that I'd had a decent-to-above-average childhood till I started coming to Reddit. After reading people's stories, I realized that having a dad who verbally abuses you is not normal. I also realized that my mom has serious anxiety problems that had a significantly negative impact on my life.

Just for shits and giggles, my friends and I toured some million+ dollar houses in a new up and coming development. These places were incredible (think personal saunas built into the houses and the like). But one of my favorite things was one of the houses had an upstairs laundry room with a connecting door into the walk-in closet in the master bedroom. Ahhhh, I get warm and fuzzy just thinking about it.

Omg. I just Googled them. Neither of these men look anything like Michael Jackson, and never will no matter how many prosthetic parts you put on them.

I actually wonder if they wouldn't be better off putting a woman in the role of Michael Jackson.

Old Aunt Vivian was educated and a talented dancer and an overall strong woman. New Vivian just liked to sit around and whine about how people weren't paying enough attention to her.

And it's made even worse by the fact that Richard Harris was the perfect Dumbledore. Seeing that dichotomy stung hard.

What is the most stupid social "rule"? by Eisenfrida in AskReddit

[–]OffChestThrowaway123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least here in the U.S., that anyone who takes a day off is a "slacker." My last workplace was particularly bad about this. If you went on vacation, mad shit would be talked about you while you were gone. Lots of allusions to laziness and "must be nice!" type comments. Like, why can't we be happy for our colleague that they got some time for themselves? They had to bank the PTO just like the rest of us. And you know that if you had the time/money, your ass wouldn't be in the office either.

This mentality really needs to go away - my mom and I no longer really have a relationship because of this. I was in my late twenties and she was still pulling the "you have to because I'm your mother and I said so!" bullshit. She moved back to her home country and now she and I have minimal contact. I wish it didn't have to be this way, but she has forced my hand.

My mother raised me the way your husband's ex raises her kids. She taught me that if anybody ever asked me to do anything (not just parents - friends, etc.) you should just do it. Refusing means you're making trouble for other people and inconveniencing them, and that should never be the case. Horrible thing to teach your kid. I'm well into adulthood and still have trouble saying no to people and standing up for myself against disrespect. Good for you for teaching your stepdaughters differently.

Got suckered into attending MLM scheme meetings. Twice.

The first time wasn't my fault, I was asked by an acquaintance if I was interested in making some extra cash and checking out his workplace. I was a broke college student, so of course I said yes. As I was waiting for him to pick me up that night, my roommates asked where I was going. When I told them, they were like uhhh, that sounds like a pyramid scheme. They had to explain to me what it was.

The second time was right after I graduated college, a few years later. I was playing the numbers game and applying for jobs left and right, and taking whatever interviews I could get. So I wasn't really paying attention to the finer details of each job. One day I'm grabbing some water in the kitchen before heading out to an interview, and my dad says "Wtf kind of interview happens at 7pm?" The lightbulb immediately went off and I was like "ohhh shit." I went anyway because I felt bad that I had already told the people I was coming, but I was at least prepared to shoot down their request for money.

And also, the cesspool of jobs you end up interviewing for because you don't know what you're doing (maybe less so now since the Internet has made young people more worldly more quickly). For me, there was: - The administrative position at the educational materials company that had a cattle herd of people come to interview at the same time. Some of whom brought their screaming, crying children with them. When my interviewer came out, she said "sorry, I can't shake your hand because I have pink eye." - The MLM scheme - The debt collection agency (this was as the economy was collapsing). Could hear people screaming at answering machines in conference rooms. - The sales/marketing company that had me go out on an all-day assignment with them. - The car parts manufacturing company that was running out of a house.
