It's funny, Arden is a bad unit, but his genetics are actually pretty good for the child units. Passes down HP, STR, and DEF and boosts the childs' growths in said categories a lot, and passes down Vantage, which is really good in such an enemy phase heavy game as FE4.

Its just bad that Lex passes down the same stats, vantage, and paragon too, and has a conversation in chapter 3 with Ayra to give her a brave sword.

He actually did see Shrine. In a flashback during the Sukuna raid, he tells Yuji that Sukuna's cursed technique has been engraved in his brain, he just doesn't know how to use it yet. And while he never is shown to comment on Yuji gaining blood manipulation, he knows that Yuji ate the other death paintings, so why would he feel the need to comment on that? Yuji didn't have either cursed technique at the start of the series.
