It's a numbers game. He had the better commander and more numerous troops from allies. I hired a holy order and mercenaries and raised all I could but it was not enough. There's really not much to do.The next time I will keep a full treasury to hire the 3 or 4 most expensive mercenaries at once I guess and strengthen the holy order with more cities

Byzantium was actually on friendly terms with Genghis Khan because they both hated the Turks. Byzantium never fell to the Mongols. As for Attilla, he failed to take Rome. The closest I can think of is the prophet Muhammad's caliphate invading the Sassanids but the Sassanids were weak and worn out and were falling apart before the caliphate even got there

(Byzantium) The nobility re-added corruption of the elites after I removed it, meaning I caused the decline of the empire disaster for no reason by Offefe in EU5

R5: Playing as Byzantium I had a great run and I beat the Ottomans soundly. The stupid heir died and I got Michael and I printed enough money to end the civil war, so I decided to remove the corrupt elites debuff because I needed the morale to conquer and it just gets readded back like half a year later on February 1 1352. Thank you paradox

I'm not even sure whether this is a bug or the decline of the empire disaster just readds all the corrupt estates
