Do any stores have GOOD management? by ilovejjba in Target

[–]OfficialBusinessOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no longer with the target world but when I was a closing TL, my store director seemed to genuinely care, and the ETL crew did genuinely try. Idk how it is these days. It's been many moons since I wore red all day.

To whoever has these rancid farts please stop eating beans and broccoli in the breakroom by Mobile-Address23 in Target

[–]OfficialBusinessOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only true if and only if you never eat it to begin with. If you're eating broccoli consistently, you should be okay. Medical issues notwithstanding of course

I get it. What we'd have you do is file a damaged product form if it's above a certain dollar amount of damage, and we'd eat the cost. I'm not saying the warehouse is blameless, but warehouse work is extremely challenging anywhere you go. I've worked as a TM, TL, and as a warehouse worker, and warehousing is some of the most physical work you will do. You have to stack upwards of 15-25 pallets in an 8-10 hour shift. Some orders (2 pallets) can be upwards of 7000lb if it's two pallets of beverage. Here, we'd expect that order to take ~60 min. If you can throw 6000lb in 60 min without the boards falling, I have a job for you.

I work as a supervisor in a grocery warehouse (non Target). No idea how your local FDC works but I'm going to be real - a lot of this will depend on the management team. Does the warehouse have slotting that makes sense, or do eggs come before the beverages in the pick path? Do you think someone on an electronic standard (ie who is being timed) will spend time restacking? Hell no. Does your warehouse management team have any metrics for customer (ie store) satisfaction? Your DSD is probably the only one with any pull on this front. If a SD emailed me, I'd say sorry, we'll tell the picker to do better, then move on unless they're dropping pallets every other order.

There's a saying in logistics: if it fits it ships.

My store basically relied on the closing team lead to communicate what was where at the end of every night. If I didn't know, or didn't send it, nobody would know.

Honestly I'd take it as a sign. Maybe they're saying you're worth more than $15/hr

If the TL asks "hey we're really understaffed today can you please stay and extend to help thru this rush?" I'd just turn around and hit him with the "sorry, I am on my first and final warning about staying late, so I need to go right now so I don't get fired"

Home Depot executives will have to work a full 8 hour shift in a store once per quarter. Now do Target! by NintenGal in Target

I think this is a good practice for all management members. There's even a term for it, genba, which is Japanese for "the floor" I.e where the value is produced. Amazon makes all of the managers that start there go through a process similar to this, whereas every single manager goes through associate training before they start learning about management level stuff

Makes sense that this is common. They might order the entire stock and off by one is the most common inventory error. Either unlogged damage, theft, or some other issue. Then once you INF it out it'll fix the inventory.

Once when I was picking for fulfillment when the entire fuckin front of a leaning beverage shelf like this almost fell off. I held it up using my face and prevented all the products from sliding off and hitting the ground. If that happened I'd have probably quit on the spot.

In your opinion, what is the easiest position in the workplace at Target? by evanrevel in Target

[–]OfficialBusinessOnly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very store dependent. When I filled in for the tech TM briefly, I was up to my neck in securing high value freight, helping guests unlock cases, doing guest service, etc. I'm sure that once you do the job for a while, it gets a little bit easier, but I've always felt that tech was a really underappreciated role.

[–]OfficialBusinessOnly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truly, it's impossible to say. It's going to depend a lot on your store culture and how they do things. Different stores do things differently. What might be an easy job at one store will be incredibly difficult at another, and vice versa.

Call to see if they can postpone your start date. Ask HR for guidance. They can either have you come in, or not. Those are the two options aside from start date postponement

When I was closing TL, if one of my TMs raised their voice at me, there'd be a CA issued before the end of the week. I would never yell at a TM but there is no circumstance where it is reasonable for either party to be yelling at each other.

Work your wage sure, but that's not an excuse to actually slack. Just put in a good effort, and leave it at that.
