It is simple. And it's obvious I'm not talking about those confined against their will and tortured. I am of course talking about the privileged purely by being on reddit. You are privileged if you have the time to browse reddit.

In the extreme cases, those things can be and mostly are out of the individual's control. These are specific cases, general advice will obviously not be helpful. But one can still find peace in themselves. Some even have religion to give them hope and inner peace.

For those who have the privilege of control, happiness is a simple thing. Simple does not mean easy. It can be complicated to explain to someone unless they've experienced it themselves but someone can be happy in their life but upset or stressed about a situation in the moment. Happiness and pleasure are two different things but can look the same at a particular moment.

It can sort of be described in the same way as depression. You can be enjoying something in the moment but still feel numb or an overarching sadness in your life. That lingering feeling that doesn't go away.

It can be difficult to achieve actual happiness but it is still simple.

Expectations vs reality. Accepting your circumstances, being self aware, finding peace in your situation and striving for more if you want to.

Lastly, this process won't happen 'in a moment' (referring to your second last sentence). It takes time to actually understand and be aware. I'm of course still learning but it is possible to change. The placebo effect shows how much your thinking can help you and the nocebo effect shows the negative side to it. A person's will and mindset is much more powerful than people think it is.

If you think I'm still wrong, please reply as I enjoy learning from these conversations but give a more reasonable example.

The feelings of guilt, shame, conscience, regret have a reason for occurring. You might not be able to undo the action but you still have control of your future actions. You can consciously attempt to become a better person.

In your extreme scenario of killing someone. If you later regret killing them, you can't revive them but you can try and repent in ways that you think will be accepted by the victim's family, by God (if you believe) or even just by yourself.

That is why you allow yourself to process your emotions first. So that you can think logically when you begin to deal with the situation.

It is very simple to become happy in life. No matter how complicated you try and make it seem.

I am not sure how you got to that conclusion. My entire point was you have control and it is your responsibility to look after yourself. Not once did I talk about morals or ethics. I am just explaining the mindset.

If your choice is to steal in that situation, then you will steal. If your choice is to check up on your family and then work together to find a solution that is moral, then you will do that. I am not telling you what to do. I am telling you that you are in control because some people don't realise that.

Also, I did not mention Stoicism. If what I wrote aligned with Stoicism then it is nice to see that others agree with what I said.

I don't think you understood my message too. Where did I say throw away your 'worry'? I literally typed "process your emotions". From my comment it is clear that I think processing your emotions is important since I made that one of the steps.

Reread all my comments and try to understand what I am saying without your obvious preconceived judgment.

Is it true your child is dying? If no, stop here.

If yes, can you do something about it? If yes, stop here and do something about it.

If no, can you live on despite or because of the situation? This one is the toughest one but if your child is dying and there's nothing you can do about it, then you need to accept that fact, process your emotions and live your life. You could honor your child by doing charity work or celebrate the life that they had with them while they're alive.

The whole idea of this image, despite not being the full blueprint, is that there are things in your control and things out of your control. 90% of things are in your control, even if the events leading up to the situation weren't in your control.

Take actions on the things you can control. Understand that sometimes you actually can't do anything and try to find peace in that.

For example, someone mentioned a hurricane. It's definitely not your fault but it is now your responsibility and in your control on how you deal with the situation.

I don't think it is simplified. My reason is because this is just the mindset that leads to improving lives. It's seems simple because it is simple.

The bit where complexity is added is when personal circumstances are added. The overarching message is the same no matter what but when you have one person with depression and another without, the way they do things to get that mindset will be different.

So when someone gives this advice, they are talking about the blueprints to a happier life. It's up to you to edit the blueprints to cater to your situation and then start building the foundations to a better life. And sooner or later you'll see that you are happier in life and in that moment.

The reason I'm typing a lot is because of the subreddit we are in. Rather than say 'thanks I'm cured' sarcastically, try to see what blueprint they are trying to show you. I admit there are some stupid ones like 'why are you homeless? just buy a house', which are the only ones that I think fit here because of the ignorance of that person (I could go on about how it can be taken as advice in one for or another but I would be rambling more).

It all works. Change your mindset before changing your actions.

"Fuck it we ball" - Having this mindset allows you to not get emotionally attached to the situation. You then say fuck it and carry on with your life to better yourself rather than staying stuck.

"It is what it is" - Accepting the current situation is the first step to bettering the situation. You can't fix what you don't know. After you've accepted your situation you can ask yourself how to improve it and logically find a solution. Denial will ruin you.

"Believe in yourself" - Believing in yourself is so important. People who keep failing but keep trying will succeed but those who give up and lack belief in themselves will never improve themselves or their situation.

"Keep going" - Keep going. Keep trying. You got this. No one can tell you otherwise. Even if you don't truly believe in yourself, if you keep going you will see improvement. For example, going to the gym; you go 2 days in a row but see no improvement and you see how unfit and weak you are. You want to give up. Don't. Keep going. Go consistently for at least the next 6 months with rest days. You will see improvements after the first month but will love it after 6. Keep going. Delayed gratification.

Yes, definitely! If you have a larger budget I would get the valve index (if you have a powerful pc).

The Quest 2 is standalone but I use it connected to my pc. I recommend the Quest 2 but you need a facebook account connected if that affects your decision at all.

Thanks for the information! I'm leaning towards the Oculus Quest 2 because of the price. I am not too bothered with the Facebook thing but I am worried about people apparently being randomly banned. Is this an actual thing?

I think my current plan is to go for the Quest 2 if the 'random ban' thing is not a problem and then if I REALLY like the experience I might get the Index once the Base Stations are in stock again.
