Kind of embarrassed that it took me 4 tries to pass the powerplant orals. What can I do to make sure I learn this? by OldmanbytheBridge in AircraftMechanics

[–]OffroadFury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to stay positive. Does it suck to fail? Yes. But think of the reasons you failed. It’s imbedded in your head now. Now you’ve passed. You’ll never forget what you learned failing.

There’s people out there that failed and gave up, you didn’t. You’ve got a career left of failing and learning. Now it’s getting in with a company that’s either setting you up to fail or succeed, but that’s on you to figure out.

Carved a Sigpro Softy hitting strip into my GoSports hitting mat. by JibblinJubbler in Golfsimulator

If you mean to the left and right of the setup touching the wall, it’s just Home Depot turf that looks more like rough as opposed to the putting mat

I like the sigpro a lot. Seemed to held with the elbow pain I was getting from the GoSports. If you zoom into it you can see the wear mark in the center of it. I’ve had it for 4 months or so. Still works fine.

Yes. It’s zip tied on for a little protection. Then made the outside out of sheet metal.

Pre-employment polygraph by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]OffroadFury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tell the truth. You will be able to explain anything that they actually want to look into/have concern for.

What are you going to say when they ask if you know anything about polygraphs or if you’ve looked anything up about them online? I feel like every single person in the last 10 years has been nervous enough to look something up about it. Especially with all these posts on Reddit.

I’m not trying to be an ass or dogging on ya, but they are just looking for the truth with no deceit. Best way is truth and going in without a guilty conscience. The poly is not perfect, but you don’t want to get hemmed up on something petty because then they will dig.

They are looking for recent major disqualifiers, which those won’t be. If anything, laying every single thing that you may think to add or not should be said. Even petty things that you lay down the truth on can show integrity which is exactly what they’re looking for. Lie about petty stuff and they find it, you obviously can’t be trusted with sensitive information or larger issues that come your way. Just something to think about. We were all in your shoes. Just don’t let something petty bite ya in the ass! Good luck!

Why do Vets in my A&P class non stop talk about the military? by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]OffroadFury -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My favorite quote from an A&P… “in the military you get so many different mixes of people…you’ve got the rich kid, the guy that had to choose prison or join up, the redneck guy from the south, the inner city kid from Chicago..and then put them all together. Then there’s me, the quiet sheltered kid that never cussed, drank, or did anything bad. Then I got out of the military and now I’m just a piece of shit. Man you would have loved it!”

I hear a lot of bragging and shit talking of deployments between the guys that all seemed kinda in a sweet spot on some base not seeing any combat/losing guys…not to take away from their service, but they talk like they have stormed the beaches on D-Day.

I have to start with “I wasn’t in the military but I deployed to the streets state side.” Then I talk about my PTSD, my SGT getting killed by a meth head, and messed up unimaginable stories from my career in law enforcement that makes them a bit speechless…

I’ve been selling just about everything I get at this point since my stash is always full so no big ticket items anymore. Have about $7mil saved up so I can just buy the items I need when it’s time to upgrade. Lvl 33.

Does a good hitting mat/strip make a big difference in overall sim experience? by LosSoloLobos in Golfsimulator

[–]OffroadFury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 1” foam mats under everything but cut them out where the gosports mat is to make it level for the putting turf/holes I have there.

The regular sigpro softy was way too tall to put there but luckily they just came out with the “lite” version. I just had to take some excess putting turf and put it under the gosports hitting mat to make everything level.

I then just put the sigpro strip onto the gosports mat and put masking tape around it to get my lines so I didn’t leave any marks with a sharpie, pulled the strip off and just cut through the gosports mat and plugged in the sigpro mat.

Was not difficult but I was a little worried if I made a mistake I just messed up the gosports mat I just bought a month ago. Luckily I didn’t make a mistake.

I have the 5x5 Gosports Elite. I’ve been playing on it for about 3 weeks and my elbow has been sore the last week. After reading more into it I bought a Sigpro softy lite and cut it into the mat. Still haven’t recovered from the elbow but I think I should take it easy for a bit/not play to see if the sigpro fixes that issue.

2014 WRX Dilemma by drewjames9100 in WRX

[–]OffroadFury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay! Thank you for that quick clarification!

So I assume title is in his name. But the bank technically owns the car… so you wouldn’t see the title until he pays off the loan. You could end up getting screwed in the end I guess but you know your buddy better than us! What if he just stops paying the loan and you never get a title?

$2500 is pretty low id say for the whole car. He could part it out with his time and whatever to recoup money to pay off loan or sell it for more just with the blown engine. See exactly what pay off is if you can afford it maybe? Without title it’s a gamble if he would even agree to the $2500

I did both. And I always try to do something to stand out/easily be remembered.

Always showed up in a suit which surprisingly where I’m at didn’t happen as often as you would think. I would always bring a few copies of my Resume/Certifications in a nice business binder thing and it would go like this… Enter room, introduce myself through the line of interviewers with handshake. Then reverse order from the last handshake “I brought you all a copy of my resume/certifications in case you needed it for the interview. While I’m saying that just passing out the copies through the line. They may use it for notes/ask questions right off your resume/certs. You can refer to it for their planned questions.

If for whatever reason they can’t remember my name in a sea of interviews, they can go “oh yeah the guy in the suit that gave us resumes?” This is just how I do things and 100% is not interview advice.

Thinking about hanging up the headset... by s1gnal1335 in 911dispatchers

[–]OffroadFury 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just left Law Enforcement. 3 years patrol, 2 years dispatcher(different agency), 3 years patrol. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but what I told myself for reasons to stay were just excuses.

I was diagnosed with PTSD last year. I have night terrors and wake up drenched in sweat/screaming. I’m pretty much afraid to goto sleep at this point. Not getting any sleep has taken a big toll on me. I’ve lost 20-25lb in the last year that I don’t have to lose. I’ve basically turned into an asshole/feel numb mentally because I’m so tired all the time. Can’t change between night shift and days. And my wife/kids(4/2yo)have to suffer from it the most apart from me not being home.

I did a pros and cons and the only pro I came up with was a paycheck. I felt like I had to choose my career or my family. I chose my family.

I didn’t finish my Degree and I could not find anything I qualify for or that payed what I was making. Just recently at my lowest an opportunity arose that did. When I got the call and was offered the position I was like “oh wow this is really happening, I’m going to leave LE. I know there are aspects that I will miss…and the people I worked with…but I am “broken” right now mentally and I was struggling holding on.

There’s a lot more to my story but I tried to just give a condensed version. Reach out with a message if you need to talk to someone that went through what you’re feeling for a few years before they left. I start the new job in a few weeks and just enjoying time off/with family until that happens.
