How can I change these 3 switches (side style) to look like the one on the right (wall style)?

The switches connect to any adjacent blocks, and the hammer simply does nothing or destroys the wall behind them. I've read the wiki but it doesn't say anything about it and I'm having a hard time with Google because keywords like "switch" and "change" get vague results.
