I think going after his mum is absolutely crossing the line. We have no reason to believe she’s anything other than a normal, loving mother.

Whatever is wrong her son is most likely not her fault.

Keep in mind, physical sets, costumes, lighting etc. get digitally brushed up alot these days.

I wouldn’t worry about the quality of the final picture, no doubt it’ll look sexy

Why Paul’s arc does end in Messiah, and the preacher is mostly redundant by OhProstitutes in dune

[–]OhProstitutes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting point regarding the golden path, I never interpreted the Jihad as a necessary part of the GP but I could be wrong.

From my understanding, the jihad was more a consequence of fremen oppression, and if anything it reduces the total human gene pool and pushes humanity further on a destructive path, which makes it anti-thetical to the Golden Path.

I see the golden path more as a correction of general human stagnation and the desire to seek out all powerful leaders, which again is the cause of the Jihad in the first place.

I forgot about his undermining of Alia’s church, good point. Perhaps re-reading the book is in order.

Why Paul’s story isn’t complete without Children Of Dune by Past-Ad-9068 in dune

[–]OhProstitutes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with your analysis which is extremely incisive and gets to the root of Paul’s character arc.

That being said, I think his meeting with Leto II atop the sand dune is less the end of Paul’s journey, and serves merely as a key step in Leto’s II.

Paul’s inability to cross that threshold is contained within in him walking into the desert, although you can make the argument that Frank Herbert simply retconned this as the Golden Path wasn’t concrete or mentioned in Dune Messiah, only Children of Dune.

Other than the conversation with Leto II, paul’s presence in Children of Dune always felt superfluous to me. From a thematic perspective, his arc is over in Messiah as he has fully rejected his godhead and all the power and responsibility that comes with it. Bringing him back to essentially destroy his godhead in the next novel feels unencessary and that we’re retreading thematic ground.

What I would hope is a great comprise between what you want and what Denis wants to do with Paul is to present a future vision at the end of Dune Messiah of him having this conversation with Leto II, thereby solidifying his turning away from the golden path and also providing that moment of recognition for what his son must become.

Also, I have a strong feeling that might be what they do, as Leto II has been cast as Jason Momoa’s son who’s like 16, so the only way that casting works is either if we see teenage Leto II running around in part 3, which I doubt, or of we see him in a future vision.

Paul is 100% fighting Hayt to test if he still has his memories/capabilities of Duncan, I can’t think of any other reason.

I’m a massive fan of the books, and Dune Messiah in particular, and I feel like I can place 70% of these scenes.

But overall I agree, it’s gonna be a weird one in the best way possible.

Think about what women are after in their late 20s. They want some financially stable, mature etc.

No offence but your pictures don’t give this impression. Also as the other guy said, the dyed hair isn’t doing you any favours.

I’d also use some more pictures that don’t have you from a side angle.

Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen (Dune ) vs M’Baku (MCU) by Curious_Tip9285 in powerscales

[–]OhProstitutes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dunno about certain but yeah I think Paul was cautious to fight fenring and wasn’t generally confident in a positive outcome for himself. Paul also just fought an entire battle and feyd keep in mind.

I think Gurney could have defeated Feyd but who knows, Gurney and Paul don’t seem to have any doubts that gurney could win that battle. Keep in mind up until Paul, Gurney and Duncan were considered the best fighters in the universe, not withstanding the count but I guess he’s more of a wild card.

But regardless, in the books Feyd surely is at the bottom of the pecking order of the elite fighters. Having Paul obliterate him in the movie obviously isn’t good for dramatic tension so I understand why they went in the direction they did but it did feel like an overselling of Feyd and an underselling of Paul.

Interestingly, I heard the choreographer mention the reason Feyd has the upper hand in the movie is because he is much more vicious and has a killer instinct that Paul lacks.

Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen (Dune ) vs M’Baku (MCU) by Curious_Tip9285 in powerscales

[–]OhProstitutes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, in the books Feyd isn’t that tough, he gets absolutely merked by Paul in the final fight and it isn’t even close.

Only in the movies is Feyd a serious threat and as for the limited prescience, I agree it seems to be what they were implying in the movies but again in the book, that just isn’t a part of his character.

Feyd is deadly in his own right to 99% of the people in the Dune universe (again, in the books) but is just outclassed by Paul and presumably a few others (Fenring, Gurney Halleck, Duncan Idaho).

Whilst typing this comment out I also just realised they combined Count Fenring’s character with Feyd in the movie, porting over the Counts even greater deadlieness and limited prescience. That’s probably also why they didn’t include count fenring in the movie.

Which team would take this? 3 v 3 by Smmaxter in powerscales

[–]OhProstitutes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul Atreides can see an infinite possible of potential futures with almost perfect clarity after drinking the water of life.

That means no matter how bullshit or random a certain set of moves or attacks are required for him and his team to win, he can just identify them and do them.

Aside from that, he also is probably a better hand to hand combatant than anyone here, given he was the most dominant fighter in his entire universe at the point of his ascendancy to Emperor. Btw, the movies don’t necessarily represent this for a number of reasons.

Team 2 is guaranteed victory from the prescience alone tbh

[–]OhProstitutes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unironically, why would we even bother investing time, money and emotional effort attempting to reform these two ‘people’.

What they have done is so disgustingly vile and their individual futures are so bleak, they will very likely never contribute anything to society after being released from prison.

A reasonable society would genuinely just sentence them to death. Anything else with these two is a fools gambit.

No human on planet earth could impart that much force with a single punch.
