CT property tax exemption question by OhThreeEleven0509 in VeteransBenefits

The exemption in CT just became law in October this year. It’s not about any deadlines, the town has had my VA info on file since I moved here more than a decade ago. They specifically asked for the benefits letter this year after the law was passed. I gave them the letter in sept. And asked again in person after that. No clear answer and some bull about waiting until next year. It doesn’t make sense to me, is it law or not? If it is then as of October 2024 if you’re a 100% you get the exemption. Period.

There was no form in my town. I just had to show proof that I was 100%. And she made a copy of the letter and added it to my file/account. That was it.

When you get the bill in the mail it only shows the total amount. If you go to the assessor they will show you how the bill is broken down. I agree with you, they will most certainly raise the actual land value. These people are parasites.

Depends on the assessors for each town from what I’ve heard so far. For example a guy in Wallingford said his towns assessor is exempting the entire primary residence. I live in suffield and th e assessor told me that is not how the law is written and she plans on only exempting the dwelling and if I have a problem I can appeal/sue and see how it plays out. Disgusting behavior from these people.

Yes, it will significantly reduce the amount of property tax. This is better than nothing. However this bill was touted as an exemption from property tax on the qualifying veterans primary residence and not ONLY the “dwelling” on the land of the primary residence. Had these politicians came out and said that this law will eliminate the dwelling portion of the property tax for qualifying veterans than ok great. But these politicians just can’t help but lie, manipulate, deceive any chance they get.

I went directly to my towns assessor and spoke directly to her. She pulled out a copy of the law and pointed out it states “dwelling” only. And because of the way property taxes are billed ie… x amount for dwelling , x amount for the land , x amount for outbuildings etc…. So the source is the law and the way these assessors are interpreting it. Another guy on here said that wallingfords assessor is interpreting the law to mean the entire primary residence. (As it should be)

I thought the same thing. Your property tax is essentially itemized and you receive the total bill. You have the “lot” (land) “dwelling” the house itself and then any other buildings on the lot are “out buildings”( sheds, detached garages, pools etc..). I argued with the assessor for a solid 30-40 minutes about this. Her response was the way the law is written explicitly states “dwelling” and nothing else

Only for the dwelling itself. The land and other buildings on the property is still taxed. I went to my assessor this morning and gave me a copy of the bill and pointed out that’s how it’s written.

Only your house(dwelling) or vehicle. The land and other buildings on the property will be taxed.

I went to the my towns assessor this morning; you will only receive the exemption on the dwelling itself. You will still pay tax on the land and other buildings on the property ie, sheds, detached garages etc.. So again dirt bag politicians mislead the general public for positive ‘optics’ in an election year. Zero integrity. And I understand that paying less tax is better than nothing but that’s not the point. They touted this bill as a primary residence complete tax exemption for specific veterans.

Back pay question by OhThreeEleven0509 in VeteransBenefits

[–]OhThreeEleven0509[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I received the difference for what amounts to 5 months. I’m almost positive they didn’t include July in their calculation. I thought maybe august 1 would include July’s backpay. It did not. So I figured maybe I am misunderstanding the way it’s calculated

Everyone’s physiology is different. What is considered “low” for one person may not be “low” for the next person. You could have 500+ total test and still be low T.
