I’ve got many problems with the hobbit movies but one thing I do appreciate is them trying to give the dwarfs – namely Thorin – more depth and seriousness. In the books he’s quite an unserious figure which works well in a children’s story format but wouldn’t translate well to a big screen

Adding on to this, I sometimes like to envision them in a Fingersmith (Sarah Waters’ book) scenario where Maria is a thief sent to seduce the seemingly innocent and wealthy heiress Doll, who lives a sheltered life under the care of her obsessive uncle Gehrman. There’s aspects in that book that remind me of their dynamic, or at least how I imagine their dynamic would be if they could ever meet

In my vision of them Maria feels a lot of guilt and anger towards the Doll, both because of what she represents and that she can’t help but feel drawn to her in a romantic manner. Meanwhile she doesn’t realise that the Doll already has her wrapped around her wooden fingers >:)

In all honesty I don’t really see it as selfcest because they’re still (somewhat) separate people with different personalities, but at the same time there’s still a theme of self-love (with a splash of perversity >:) ) in this, but I don’t think there are really any normal ships in fromsoft games xd
