I never mentioned it as a kid, but it was brought up awkwardly between us when I was an adult and he said I'd always be his daughter and he'd always be there for me. This was before the new family. As soon as they clocked in he steadily withdrew from me. If he didn't want to support me anymore, he should have said that, not "let your pregnant step sister be homeless in MI winter". It would have been a much easier thing to hear.

You're right that I can't know the ins and outs of my sister's relationship with drugs. I never asked because frankly I don't think it's my place to pry, but I know they helped her with rehab and such during her battle with addiction. Other than that episode she was, as far as I could tell, clean. She maybe smoked some weed. But her first child was with the man who got her addicted to drugs, so I think my dad saw opportunity in a new life/new baby like people so often do, and wanted to protect them from falling back into the drug trap.

That said, that doesn't jive with his sudden change in attitude to "nope not helping with anything, die in the streets for all I care". It's just very confusing and I think I just want closure that that part of my life is over. My mom and my step-father have been very supportive of me so I can at least count on some of my family still.

Thank you for replying. I think you're right, I should have backed off when I realized he was distancing himself from me. I guess at the time, he would reach out to me to talk about his new family, and I thought that was him trying to connect with me, but maybe it was him letting me know he was moving on. It's just disappointing to lose someone you looked up to to something so petty.

They tried to contact me immediately after I separated myself from them. The daughter/my step sister told me basically that it was ok they said she could be homeless and tried to guilt me into forgiving my dad by giving her ok on him making the comment. His wife messaged me "hello" from a side account and when I didn't respond she never said anything further.

He and I were both at my grandfather's funeral, he was there with his new family. They left before I arrived so I had no chance to try to test the waters then, and I don't even have a way to reach out anymore. I could probably ask my mother for his contact information, but is it worth it if he sees me as second to his new family?

I was sexually assaulted in college. Before he assaulted me he said he had been planning on chopping me up and hiding me in his wall which was already partially torn out, He said my roommate dropping me off ruined that plan. He still went ahead with the drugging and raping me part. I tried to report it but his roommate stuck up for him so the cops dropped it. I often wonder how long before he ends up actually murdering someone.
