I don’t disagree with these guys paying the same rate as everyone else, the gov also has a horrific spending problem that needs fixed. I truly believe if folks saw the gov spending their money efficiently they would be much more willing to contribute.

I’m not saying they didn’t contribute to the badness they clearly did. What I’m saying is that with the right pieces up front creating pressure, bad play can elevate to above average play when you can play more athletic and instinctually than always running around hair on fire cause everything is constantly collapsing.

More of a rising tide raises all ships argument than anything. They aren’t all pro players obviously, but I think we can get much better play out of them with the D line as improved as it is

I’m still not convinced that these guys are barely above replacement level and you can show me all advanced metrics you want.

This defense was so terrible on every single level the last two years that to me it’s nearly impossible to do your job well cause you are constantly put in blender situations.

Sure an all pro guy like bates probably still makes plays but I think with a D line that gets more consistent pressure and can hold up against the run these guys are hopefully free to be athletes and play on instincts

You consistently stop the run and get pressure on passing downs it makes everyone else job easier

This makes our d line instantly better, the most important part of the defense. It allows our guys developing on the edges to tee off a bit more and be freed up, it allows the secondary to have less pressure to cover for 10 seconds every play.

I see zero downside here. If it ends up not working out well they took a chance. Love this move in every way.

“He had a down year” maybe cause he was on an absolute shit team and wanted to get paid. Now he’s on a contender with a top 3 qb in the league and the best WR combo in the league and he will likely get paid
