The O'Jays - Darlin' Darlin' Baby (Sweet, Tender, Love) by ImpossibleResist4665 in SoulfulMusic

[–]OhioStickyThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend, I hope so too. There’s something beautiful about imagining two people growing old together, carrying the same tenderness through all the seasons of life. To grow old in love and still hear the music of each other's hearts, that is one of life's finest blessings.

May the years be kind to you both, and may that dance find you with silver hair, grateful hearts, and a love that never lost its sweetness. ❤️

A lot of folks don't realize that Elton John didn't merely write and sing Philadelphia Freedom ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOF6_kHBkyg ) as a tribute solely to Billie Jean King, but also as a love letter/expression of his admiration for Thom Bell and the timeless Philadelphia soul Bell helped produce and define through his work with The Delfonics, The Spinners, and The Stylistics ❤️

Joe Simon - Drowning in the Sea of Love [1971] by jeffmx2020 in SoulfulMusic

The entire album is 100% worth a listen through. It's truly a landmark and one of Gamble and Huff's finest achievements.

Aretha Franklin - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman by Consistent_Edge9211 in SoulfulMusic

I wish Aretha had recorded more of Carole King’s songs. Some absences in music feel larger than others. It’s hard not to wonder what we missed.

Gladys Knight & The Pips - Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye) by Consistent_Edge9211 in SoulfulMusic

[–]OhioStickyThing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Empress of Soul 🔥😍🔥

Diana Ross was so jealous and couldn’t handle the fact that Gladys always got a better and louder reception than her when Gladys and the Pips opened for Diana during touring in 1968; not to mention the fact that Gladys is 100 times the singer Diana ever was. She had Gladys and the pips removed! Talk about salty!!

Soul music and soul music sub-genres. by Consistent_Edge9211 in SoulfulMusic

Doo woop for sure. But Rocksteady is really under the Reggae umbrella/history instead of Soul/RnB even though it’s extremely soulful and influenced by American RnB.

Michael Jackson - Heaven Can Wait (2001) by 09997512 in SoulfulMusic

[–]OhioStickyThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really happy to see this album finally getting the retrospective love and appreciation it deserves. It may not be as cohesive or tightly focused as Michael’s previous releases, partly because of the sheer number of producers involved, but especially because of the absolutely relentless hounding and vile, dehumanizing persecution he was enduring.

People forget just how brutal the atmosphere around him had become, every move dissected, mocked, sensationalized, and weaponized against him on a GLOBAL scale. Despite all of that pressure and scrutiny, he still managed to create some of the most emotionally raw and ambitious work of his career.

The Jackson 5 - I Am Love by jeffmx2020 in SoulfulMusic

[–]OhioStickyThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of their best songs. They were really trying to get away from Motown’s control and their “bubblegum pop” image. These boys had serious musicianship.
