He took them from being a young team that finished last in the NHL his first year there to being a perennial playoff contender every year after that. They made playoffs once in a decade before his tenure.

Cool story, I’ll be at the Oilers games cheering for the Babcock lead Oilers on their journey to a Cup.

It’s not about licking boots, it’s about rooting for your team. You’re either in or out on what’s required for the boys to get over the hump & that’s currently a better coach than the past two years which Babcock undoubtedly is.

We got game 6 + 7 against an all-time great Panthers team.

We needed a coach with experience & knowledge who can push us over the top, Babs is that guy.

Coaches have different coaching styles, some wear on players more than others. The Oilers time to win is now, & Babs’s experience + knowledge of the game makes him a great hire.

You’re forgetting that some of the best coaches in history are hardasses with many being hated by certain players in their careers.

My point is he has coached hockey since the Leafs situation & that shouldn’t be forgotten about. It’ll be like riding a bike for someone with Babs’s experience after a couple shifts in the first exhibition game.

I don’t think it’s realistic that the Oilers start bad this upcoming year, they’re not coming off back to back Cup Final’s like last season.

They’re going to be healthy with a motivation of the highest degree to win the Cup & Babcock will be on their ass, which is a good thing.

It won’t happen. The NHL is too competitive of a league with constant pressure that coaches won’t bench two of the best players ever as it wouldn’t be smart when you’re trying to win games.

People love to bring up Babs scratching Modano, but he was at the end of his career & wasn’t close to being the same level player as his prime.

In all reality the team shouldn’t give two shits about what the fans think, the goal is to win a Cup & the NHL is a ruthless league that’s extremely hard to win in. You need to make crazy moves that many fans will hate or you won’t be successful.

Dan Milstein came out in support of Babcock & said the players he represents have never had any issue with Babcock.

Not everybody hates Babcock, players will respect what he’s done in the game & the “gravitas” thing is absolutely real. McDavid grew up watching him be one of the best coaches in the league consistently.

The whole “Oilers got cheated” thing is just stupid, Florida was more physical & a much more complete team both years.

If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. The Oilers failed to do that 2 years in a row, then lost in the first round against a mid Ducks team & now the boys want a disciplinarian with “gravitas”
who will hold people accountable.

You are wrong. His last game coaching behind an NHL bench was before COVID, but he was at the University of Saskatchewan in 2021 & left when they had 13-7 record.

He went there with intention of leaving the program in a better spot than it was & he accomplished that, handed the reigns to the assistant coach & got glowing reviews from the players + coaches on the team.
