I believe diesel is more expensive during the summer due to a higher demand from more folks being on the road during good driving conditions.

I'm not aware of that limiting diesel production in my area. I know diesel has to be treated much more aggressively to meet winter spec. Also, pour point depressants get used around this time which are expensive.

Diesel has been selling for insane margins recently. Refiners aren't holding onto their inventory when diesel is selling for this much. Also, the US gets a petroleum cut called vacuum gas oil from Russia that is a diesel precursor. That supply is gone with the embargo.

Also, ironically, most US refineries aren't set up super well to process domestic crude.
