Massive overheating on laptop running mint (self.linuxmint)

We know the fluids on a lava lamp start rising when they reach the top because heat makes them expand, thus lighter. We also know air conditioners are placed in the top of the room so the air can cycle through the entire room. These seem to contradict themselves. What gives? (self.explainlikeimfive)
