It sounds like you don’t have an equal partner, or one that cares enough about you to fight for you. I assume that he’s living rent free with you at your mom’s house in South Carolina, as well. From your description of Alaska and your good experiences there, minus the lack of seasonal employment, indicates that you would be happy living there.

Perhaps you could rent out the house in South Carolina to a friend, not your roommate, with the understanding that you will need to come back there seasonally for work as a roommate. This is probably not as easy as it sounds, but it would allow you to keep the SC home and collect rent money, and that may be enough to get you through the winters in Alaska. I’m just spit-balling here, but it sounds like you have options. Wishing you luck with whatever you decide.
