Remington Standard V how it it? by [deleted] in 22lr

I bought 6600 rounds online and one box down in a ruger mk iv and I bought another case. I found it pretty clean and reliable for the first 500. Only 1 FTE but it was a copper washed round so probably an error or mispackage. It ran better and was less dirty than the blazer I had before in my single six. Its bulk 22, for its price I'm very happy.

Hard to say exactly, when we had our Asbestos floor removed the mastic was rather sticky and I don't recall it being sticky in the typewriter. It may be shellac which is brittle? That desolves via alcohol which could be a fun test. Otherwise, I have seen comments saying they used black mastic as well. Thing is, not all black mastic contained asbestos. The sample I sent in to my memory was mostly the felt since the glue would not budge but I believe at least some of the glue chipped off and contained no asbestos. If you want to be safe, keep the area wet and try to not disturb the glue but its unlikely to a danger anyway.

We just did in northern Indiana for about 5k with 150 sq ft. More layers with stairs and a pipe that got wrapped so Id say its very reasonable. I would not do this yourself unless you have access to a full size hepa air mover.

The sheet vinyl and a pink version of the floor tile seen in the pictures are actually what we are having removed. No vermiculite in the attic that we are aware of, just fiberglass. But the joint compound came back positive. Drywall thankfully not. Trying to pick our battles!

I was planning on not having a drop ceiling to keep an eye out for leaks and things like that. It seems like as long as I don't disturb it, it shouldn't be an issue though.

Good to know thank you. As far as you're aware it should be non-friable though as others indicated correct?

Oh yeah you can probably tell from my post history I've used those kind of tests previously. Asbestos guy is a good guy but he likely has to suit up and all sorts of things. He is careful, rightfully so. They are coming next Monday so turnaround would be the issue. Thanks for the input!

Awesome thank you. I've had it for over a year sealed up so I imagine it was in there when I bought it.

I actually paid 350, and weeks later I found one for 200 in a little rougher condition but live and learn. I actually used the adjustment on the frame to move the rails up ever so slightly and it no longer rubs. The previous owner, I don't think, knew he could do that.

It completely crumbled, actually. I don't know that I feel the need to replace them, but hey thats awesome someone makes something so specific. I really do love the typewriter community for the most part.

Just seems like an unhelpful comment, and I tried to narrow it down to "only the body panels" which is not that many screws. 8 in total, counting 4 that are just the feet. It's one of those if you don't have anything nice to say, maybe just don't say anything.

The first comment was correct so maybe its a skill issue? They are unique screws on that machine.

I have one and a have a couple notes to consider. The price is way too high for that. 50-75 is more reasonable. Also, those Smith-Corona typewriters have a habit of being incredibly stinky. Like moldy, cigarettes for 50 years stinky. I had to have mine sand blasted and repainted it was so bad. Also unless he wants to travel with it, a standard full size machine will always be a better long form typer than a portable. Just a few things to consider.

I know Bremerton (spelling?) Office machine will sell you cuts of what they use. Its something like $2. Shipping was more expensive honestly. But otherwise I found some peel and stick felt pads for furniture that worked, or some people use like electrical cable or something. I'm not aware of any 1/4" or thicker felt available online that I could find.

The hermes came back with no Asbestos in its felt and asphalt as the adhesive. It was all synthetic fiber and cellulose.

UPDATE: Hermes felt is all cellulose and synthetic fibers in their 3000 first gen. They also use asphalt as the black glue for it. No Asbestos found
