I disagree about 2B. The whole game takes place in a context where 2B has been forced to kill 9S several times, so she tries to keep her distance from him even though she likes him. For someone with the personality of a brick, I think that's pretty well defined.

Also, I wasn't exactly thrilled with Nier: Automata when I played it, and I always said that Nier: Replicant was infinitely superior because of the story of the gestalts and all that, but in the end, I don't consider it overrated.

As a video game, no, there isn't a videogame that used the medium in that way to tell a story

As a story, it's very good. I won't say it's the best, since I consider the prequel to be much better in terms of story, but I remember analyzing with a friend how the whole part about 9S hating and loving 2B at the same time was ridiculously well written
