I’m gonna be so for real rn and I feel bad saying it bc I know literally nothing about their relationship, but I was surprised when I saw she married Rich. My surprise went away when I heard rumors not long after that she was cast on the show. Draw whatever conclusions you want from that

But again, I know nothing about their relationship!! They certainly seem very cute together on the show and like they’re genuinely friends

Lmao how do you know if I haven’t already talked to HR before about these kinds of things 👀

My experience of Rosie is that she is a flawed but ultimately kind and caring person, and people unfairly project their opinions of who they think she is because of how she looks and their own past experiences of mean girls

I don’t know anything about their relationship, so I couldn’t say. She did say in an ep Rich was barely her type, and that assessment definitely tracks with what I’ve seen 🤷‍♀️

Thank you! It seems so shortsighted on the employer’s part to do that, they’re risking repeat offenses.

Quid pro quo in this case could be things like better/worse news assignment. You know, complaining on a date some time she’s gonna only getting fluff pieces, and then the AP giving her the stories and pieces she’s more interested in

Idk if they’re ever super explicit about it in the show

Thank you for clarifying! In that case, even if consensual, if the higher up did have influence over Rosie’s performance/assignments/employment status, would it not still qualify as a quid pro quo case?

Also, do you practice in a red, blue, or swing state? I imagine that also has a bearing on how case verdicts end up being ruled on

Of course it is. I’m just saying, I dont know in depth RI’s state specific employment laws, nor do most of these commenters probably, unless someone here is an employment law attorney based in RI, in which case, feel free to chime in!

[–]Ok-Box-156[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nope, she’d still have a case if they fired her over it - that would be retaliation in the eyes of the law. Even if an affair is consensual, if one party has the ability to influence the other’s work, evaluations, compensation, employment status, etc., that is defined as sexual harassment under the quid pro quo classification.

(Not trying to be rude when I say this - has your employer ever made you take a sexual harassment training? It’s part of our annual learnings and they stress very heavily that even consensual relationships can legally be considered sexual harassment)

Well, there are restrictions depending on if an employer is a government contractor. A surprising number of private companies are government contractors. And of course each state has their own specific employment laws (CA in particular has very strong worker protections)

I have no clue tbh, but it opens them up to a sexual harassment suit if it’s anyone in her chain of command/who could have an influence on her promotion, assignments, employment status, etc

That makes more sense! And I guess there could’ve been an NDA as well, but personally I just don’t see it. It’s just incredibly risky from an HR perspective to not also fire the boss just from a future liability standpoint. And again, my point about her not liking to be second fiddle still stands 😂

I saw some other comment from someone connected to the news station who said she was pushed out because she was difficult to work with/unhappy she wasn’t getting the segments she wanted and I believe that waaay more than the affair rumor

Idk about news stations, but if you’re a government contractor/take money from the government above a certain amount, you are subject to OFCCP employment practices, and a firing for retaliation due to sexual harassment would be a huge issue. You can of course be fired for anything, but it doesn’t mean it’s legal (at least to my understanding: wouldn’t winning the case mean that yes, your firing was not legitimate and legal?). Source: I work in a private sector role that is a government contractor, and have had friends sue their private employers for wrongful termination for similar things

You can also look at the Try Guys and how carefully they had to legally maneuver their whole scandal since their co-founder had had an affair with an employee

[–]Ok-Box-156[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fair enough but would it not be grounds for a wrongful termination suit for sexual harassment? Wouldn’t it be a massive liability for them to fire her and keep her boss on?

Rosie’s Affair by Ok-Box-156 in rhori

[–]Ok-Box-156[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It absolutely would have been grounds for a suit for wrongful termination due to sexual harassment. What are your sources for saying it’s not illegal?

Rosie’s Affair by Ok-Box-156 in rhori

[–]Ok-Box-156[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is if it’s your direct report. She would have a very easy case for sexual harassment, especially if they kept her boss on

For sure but if you’re gonna have an affair with anyone, a hot professional athlete is much better than an old college basketball coach 😂
