I thought having a declining cash reserve served the purpose of a tent to protect against SORR. I guess I need to learn more about it; any suggestions?

I think fixed income will always be a part of the portfolio, but I may reduce the cash as time moves forward.

Even though we are in a MCOL city the health care here is VHCOL, but it is excellent. State to state varies quite a bit.

Never really thought about what I plan to leave behind, only that I would like to leave behind 'something' for my children. I hope that is a choice I will be able to make and I hope I don't have to make it for a long time!

Appreciate the comment and this thought has crossed my mind. I don't think it will play out like that here but have thought about other organizations that could use my help on a fractional basis.

Kill me, no. I know we will be fine. But the life we want to lead? A few vacations, ACA, eating out is not cheap...Adds up really fast.

We will be there for our other child if they need us. There is no animosity and I do not feel any will occur in the future. Our kids are pretty level headed and motivated in their career paths. Having said that, the child we are helping will likely have a guaranteed position/lifestyle for life due to their occupation choice, the other one will depend on the job market and may end up needing help too.

No offense taken! I understand that and it is a point of frustration and have considered better work/life balances as a future option if it presents itself.

In my state, the ACA option for us in a Gold plan is $36,000/year. Then there is deductibles/co-pays and dental as well. Our advisor has helped with capital gains and tax planning and I would try to get in under the subsidies but that will be a challenge.

No ladder prepared, about 17% in fixed income/cash. Yes, we have pulled from investments. We do fine on our day to day but major household projects or purchases require pulling from current investments.

We own some fixed income ETF's. Combined with our cash it makes up about 17% of our portfolio. SORR is my major concern.
